Which Kaiju do you guys want/think Legendary will use in the upcoming MonsterVerse movies?
my top 5 that we don't already know about would be..
•Destroyah
•MechaGodzilla
•Mecha-King Ghidorah
•Battra
•Gigan
***Anguirus
***Burning Godzilla
Which potential Kaiju battles are you most excited for? Godzilla and Mothra vs. Destroyah would make for quite a visually stunning battle(imo)
And if Toho decides to make another Godzilla movie post Godzilla vs. Kong, could we possibly get another Kaiju movie in the MonsterVerse not involving Godzilla?

All right all right all right

Hey Guest, want to add your say?

That I can agree with. If Toho takes the charge with making new monsters and the Monsterverse does get stuck with the old favorites, I'd be mostly satisfied. I think if we do get a sequel to Shin Godzilla, we could get the best original monster since Biollante.

Tbh tho, Pacific Rim Monsters(NOT ALL OF THEM) never honestly "wow" me, well yes sure some of them do look somewhat original but some of them also look somewhat generic or a mix both.
Godzilla Generations was a beautiful game! I loved the fact that there's a laser cannon inside of Dr. Serizawa's eyepatch.

I think Pacific Rim kaijus represent the best reimagined classic kaijus of the 2 franchises. The mix and match of the monsters strikes a great chord with me. What del Toro did was amazing, I only wish this carried on into the Legendary Godzilla movie. That movie made me an anti-Edwards fan.
I just hope Dougherty can deliver a great movie and design into the monsters he is directing. I think KOTM will bring this Monsterverse into a great new light!
YOU.....DUMBBELL!

riggzamortis86,
Massively agree. Pacific Rim's kaiju designs aren't the best designs ever, but they're leaps and bounds better than the MUTO and Skullcrawlers. In an interview del Toro explained that the philosophy to designing them was to create them in a way that could also be brought to life through suitmation. The design team found that the philosophy expanded they're creativity, rather than limit it, because they were able to bring to life fuller, bulkier creatures that Hollywood usually steers away from.
Knifehead is probably my favorite new kaiju since Iris.

^KNIFEHEAD FOR PRESIDENT!
haha, but I sincerely hope Dougherty takes a page or 2 from del Toro, instead of anything Edwards did for the franchise. Don't get me wrong Edwards can be an ok director. I watched his movie Monsters and I thought it was pretty good. Not close to a favorite, but it was ok. But with Godzilla I thought, "Well they cant screw this up all that bad can they?", I was disappointed and let down. Honestly, before we all the saw the movie and the teaser trailers were out, I thought the images in the trailer and the story and the way it was portraying Godzilla was better than the actual movie. Silly right?
Point being is that Pacific Rim is great both with story and design, and for a franchise to mimic another franchise and do it better is amazing! Legendary Godzilla has a lot to live up to more than ever. If Godzilla were to be the only franchise featuring kaiju running right now, maybe I wouldn't be so picky, Pacific Rim set the bar higher for me. Lets hope 2019 brings in a great monster movie.
Fingers crossed for 2019 and 2020.
YOU.....DUMBBELL!

Knifehead?, I mean he's not bad but his design honestly didn't "wow" me, probably because he was a quickly thrown away.
Godzilla Generations was a beautiful game! I loved the fact that there's a laser cannon inside of Dr. Serizawa's eyepatch.

Knifehead reminds me a lot of Guiron from Gamera fame. I like that monster most out of the whole showa series of gamera. Until Iris came around.
YOU.....DUMBBELL!

Agreed again. Knifehead had a lot of Showa series influence to him and immediately stood out compared to even the other kaiju in Pacific Rim. He had a great, bulky silhouette, imposing head design and actually looked like something that would tear those jaegers in two--And it nearly did! The opening fight sequence was incredibly suspenseful.
I'll take Knifehead any day over MUTO or Skullcrawlers. No contest at all.

Same here. He even looks better than Slattern, and we only saw him for a few scenes (or minutes, I'm not sure which).

MinecraftDinoKaiju,
Completely agree. Slattern was a little too over-designed and muddled looking to remember for my money. Knifehead was simpler, but very effective.

Whatever you guys say, my personal favorite is Otachi.
Godzilla Generations was a beautiful game! I loved the fact that there's a laser cannon inside of Dr. Serizawa's eyepatch.

Gotta agree with the majority here, KnifeHead is also my favorite. Otachi does come in second though. Very Rodan-esque but still original enough. With Pacific Rim, it was hands down the most fun I've had watching a monster movie in theatres since Godzilla 2000(first g movie I ever saw in a theatre). If you weren't a Godzilla fan, it would've been pretty easy to fall asleep watching the 2014 movie
All right all right all right

If they were to get the rights to Toho monsters, I’d love to see Anguirus, Manda, and Mechagodzilla. But original monsters are cool as well.
“Banana oil.”- George Takei, Gigantis: The Fire Monster

As far as Pacific Rim goes, I really loved the designs of the monsters, and I have to agree with y'all that Knifehead was my favorite, but I also loved Trespasser's design.
I'm all for original monsters in the Monsterverse, as long as they're memorable. I'd just love to see what old classics like Anguirus and Manda would look with Hollywood special effects.
I'd appreciate seeing forgotten kaiju given a stronger chance, and perhaps make them stronger in the process. Some notable ones I'd live to see are:
Manda, Varan, Titanosaurus, And I'd kill to see a movie with Godzilla Unleashed (Wii Edition)'s Krystalak.
I enjoyed the MUTOs designs. It’s original and looks really epic. It’s kinda hard to be original these days when everyone has already thought of everything so the creators did their best and put a spin on it like all the others tried to do. Can’t fault them and say they are less creative than Toho. Anyway, I would enjoy seeing 1998 Godzilla. If I can get a him, I would be pretty happy. He needs another big screen appearance. Hopefully it would wash away the pointless hate he gets.

One of the big selling points of the 2014 movie was to create goodwill with the fans--That meant straying as far from the 98 flick as possible. If we ever see Zilla again it will likely be in a Toho movie before a Hollywood flick. But I don't expect him to ever return to the screen. Even his "return" in 2004 was for a film that flopped hard, so there's not a lot of intensive for Toho either.
I disagree, zilla has been done right multiple time in the comics and has turned many fans to love him. Not to mention I think one way of showing growth and betterment is accepting past mistakes and fixing them if possible. Giving zilla a major movie appearance and making him better than his original by sizing him up and give him better durability would really show the audience that they understand their mistakes and will not make them again. Not to mention his design is already epic and he is many Americans first Godzilla movie, including my own. You got to show respect for him in that regard at least.

I don't respect bad movies made with contempt for franchises. Both Toho and, by extension Legendary, grew by accepting that the 1998 movie was a mistake and they showed that understanding by leaving it in the past and doing something with more respect and love for the material.
Zilla's done and over with. He'll be seen in more comics and supplementary material I'm sure. But the powers that be have already accepted the mistake and have shown that they understand it by making better movies.
I would not call it a bad movie, it was a basic monster movie. I don’t believe it was made in contempt either. It was made for Americans who have a different taste in movies than the Japanese. Toho and Roland were both at fault for it being a failure Godzilla movie. They allowed for people who did not understand or truly care for Godzilla to direct and make a Godzilla movie. Toho could have stepped in anytime, they gave the thumbs up for the movie. They don’t hate zilla, if they did why keep putting him out there? Why not put him in the movie as a minor titan? Who cares about what the pissy annoying zilla haters say. He is an awesome monster who was determined to not be Godzilla long ago. Get over it I say. He deserves more love. What I said in the previous comment still stands.

I love Zilla as well, although Godzilla 1998 unfortunately was made to cashgrab Jurassic Park craze of the 90's, I think Zilla should be forgiven and given a second chance on the big screen.

Top 5: Destroyah, Biollante, Anguirus, MechaKingGhidorah, MechaGodzilla
Angering the Godzilla fan base one take at a time

This is less about what I want to see and more about why Mike Dougherty was the right man to direct this (albeit it at the wrong time, but then again, timing is everything isn't it?). It also does play with the theme/question posed here. I think G.H. (Gman) will find this interesting, if he hasn't already seen it. The following was a snippet I saw posted in the Boston Herald:
“The film firmly establishes that Ghidorah can regenerate. That DNA is not of this world, which means that the possibilities are endless,” said Dougherty. “I think that’s why (Jonah) definitely has a little glimmer in his eyes. Because he sees all the potential uses, whether it be the whole head itself or even just a small sample of the DNA.”
There is definitely a whole world of possibilities, especially if a mad scientist were to get a hold of some of that monster DNA. But that’s not all.
“We also see a swarm of flies that are feasting on the head,” points out Dougherty. “So how is that going to affect the insects that are eating its flesh?”
The filmmaker also didn’t discourage hopes of seeing Mecha-King Ghidorah — the man-made robotic Ghidorah seen in 1991’s “Godzilla vs King Ghidorah.”
“That’s the fun of Godzilla movies,” Dougherty said. “While they have one foot (closer to) our existing world in sort of a grounded science fiction reality, they aren’t afraid to just go for it, get weird, and embrace this bizarre science fantasy logic. Let’s have a mechanical Godzilla. Let’s give Ghidorah a mechanical robot head. Why not?”
Dougherty, of course, did not guarantee that any of these theories are actual plans for the future.
“I’m not saying that any of these things are definite setups. But you don’t have to think about it very much for very long to sort of dream up a long list of possible ways to go with a severed head of a space dragon,” he said.
Anguirus should be the next one. It makes so much sense, yet they never added him.

YeOldFossil,
I don’t believe it was made in contempt either.
Think again. Emmerich and Devlin were not fans of the material and didn't want to do it when they were offered the job.
“Both of us thought it was a dopey idea the first time we talked. When Chris came back to us, we still thought it was a dopey idea." - Dean Devlin
"It’s just the same movie over and over again. They always had another monster in it, and I never get anything out of two monsters fighting. For reasons I can’t explain myself, kids all over the world kept watching these movies, in cassettes and at matinees." - Roland Emmerich
“There was no understanding of the property and what it was all about. The Sony executive team that took over Godzilla was one of the worst cases of executive incompetence I have observed in my twenty year career. One of the golden assets of our time, which was hand-delivered to them, was managed as poorly and ineptly as anybody can manage an asset. They took a jewel and turned it into dust.” - Co-Executive Producer, Robert N. Fried
Toho executives didn't like the design either and only gave the movie a green light because they were afraid it was their last chance to break in to the international market--Which ended up being a mistake on their part since the movie made it impossible to license Godzilla merchandise overseas for the next 5 years. Godzilla was considered poison by western markets since so much of the 1998 merchandise didn't move and sat on shelves collecting dust.
I'm glad you enjoy the monster and that the movie got you in to the franchise proper, but it still weakened the franchise to a point where even Toho couldn't save it in Japan. There's literally no reason to bring the creature itself back to the screen and the only reason Toho keeps licensing it out to overseas comics is because it's an opportunity to make extra pocket change off the character. Fans of GINO, or Zilla, are a niche group in an already niche fandom. It would only be pleasing a fraction of a fraction of a fraction--Which isn't financially worth it.

KoldWarKid62,
I have in fact seen that. I didn't put too much stock in it, but you're right. It sets up an entire galaxy of possibilities.

@Gman - I don't put much stock in it either, because unfortunately, I think the Monsterverse ends next year, unless some miracle happens. It's just interesting to see how much of a fan he is and how much he loves that world/genre.

Bingo. I don't think it will continue either. Though there is no denying Dougherty really fanboys out over the series.
Gman, I honestly think your overthinking the zilla inclusion. A minor appearance in the monsterverse isn’t going to shut it down. I’m not, or any other zilla fan for that matter, is asking for a zilla solo film or comic. We just him to be in it as a minor titan. An appearance in a comic or a movie should be fine and dandy and not cause an uproar with Godzilla fans. Well, the mature ones at least. There will always be a zilla hater that talks trash but what can they do? I’m pretty sure Toho would happily give legendary zilla for cheap. Also, this topic is about what monster people want in the monsterverse, I want zilla and that’s that. Don’t care what people say.

The idea of Mechagodzilla is kind of growing on me... If portrayed as an Alien construct like it was back in the 70's. But Mechaghidorah makes no sense in the monsterverse since King Ghidorah can regenerate a new completely organic body.

"I’m pretty sure Toho would happily give legendary zilla for cheap."
You don't know Toho very well do you?

I would have to say Mechagodzilla. I am not gonna repeat myself on how and why because I have made multiple topics and comments on the subject, but I simply want to have the full Toho big 5 in the Monsterverse at some point.
Warner Bros has acquired the rights for Mechagodzilla in recent years, maybe one more time would be that much of a problem for them.
Long live the king...
