@Chris,

Those images are legit. August Ragone and Gormaru island confirm it. Gman2887 is probably writing the article right now.

Yikes. Costumes never look that great offscreen. I will stay optimistic though.

The key will be in the execution: how the design looks filmed with the 'hybrid' special effects.

Also, the direction: how the Godzilla is made to act and emote.

Then there's the story. A strongly written narrative must be at the foundation of Godzilla's appearance. He shouldn't be made to look like this just to appear shocking or grotesque. Because, this is shocking and grotesque. If the look, atmosphere and feel of the film fit this design, and there is a kind of symmetry between how Godzilla looks and acts and how the film is experienced, this will be good. And Shin Gojira should be, if this symmetry is realized, scary, shocking and horrible. It would be interesting to see Godzilla 'regenerate' and achieve some normalcy, a restoration of sorts, while still inspiring fear (and dread). For this to take place over the course of the film, with his look 'improving' with time, would be a great element to film's story, visually and narrative-wise, IMHO.

A restoration of Godzilla could also mirror a similar return to normalcy and wholeness in Japan. Because Godzilla is Japan, although the phrase from the poster says, "Godzilla against Japan."

In any event, this fan would love to see and marvel at the visualization of the regenerating and restoration of Godzilla. Especially given the promise of a hybrid approach to the special and visual effects. Seeing a regeneration happen-digitally-integrated into the practical effects we love as fans, is an exciting proposition.

Again, with just a little bit of news, Shin Gojira elicits great promise.

JAMAAL - Oh, gosh! He looks amazing! The fine detail that has been paid to Godzilla is incredible; you can see the burn scarring and healing tissue! In my opinion, he appears to have suffered tremendous heat trauma from direct exposure to an atomic blast - almost as if he was only a few thousand feet distant from ground zero! What a phenomenal find! Thank you ever so much for sharing this with us! :)

I'm not liking the designs. But I'm still 50/50, I have to see the final movie. The spines are too crammed together, the neck is too long, and up close with the head in detail is awful, and the arms, wtf!!!???

It looks like a mutated, rotting version of Godzillasaurus … the long neck, the short arms … i call it hereby Zombilla!

Not quite sure what to think. These still images are not doing it for me; I certainly hope he looks better, but again, these are totally out of context and not great quality. This also could be a concept maquette.

I'll reserve judgment until I see him in action in the finished movie.

A little too much red in the first picture for my liking. I can't tell if it's just the lighting or angle though since other pics don't have that problem. I'll just wait for some better shots of the monster to come out before really taking a stance on it.

I'm almost certainly convinced that Godzilla is undergoing some form of regeneration. At least I hope so. Even given the quality of the leaked photos, it would seem that there is a marked difference between Godzilla's appearance in them and how he looks in the officially released poster.

We always want more: so, some nice, high definition photos, with good detail would be nice. If regeneration is part of the story, perhaps it could be alluded to in a way that gives us some idea (however vague) of what Godzilla undergoes in this film. Just a hint to make us even more interested: "As the conflict intensifies, Godzilla changes with it..."

I love this part of the production cycle.

When I look at the design, not to hate or anything, i instantly think of a giraffe. It will probably look better on screen though

DON'T READ WHAT IS BELOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING (THAT MAY BE IN SHIN GOJIRA) REGARDING GODZILL'A APPEARANCE-EVEN GENERALLY

************************************************************************************************************

Some sites are saying that Godzilla will be three different forms in Shin Gojira. According to these sites, the pictures leaked yesteday are of the 'first form.' Then he continues to regenerate during the film. Apparently, he looks less horrible as the regeneration progresses.

I don't know anything about the reliability of the sources or sites.

Personally, I hope this information is correct. As for recent events, I wonder if his appearance/regeneration is tied to the events at Fukushima?

^It's still mainly speculation. Although there's evidence out there for this theory now, I have it on very good authority that the websites claiming the regeneration angle is absolute fact have no actual proof of the matter.

There's another new rumor floating around that the movie does indeed connect with the 1954 film. (Meh...) But in this continuity he survived the Oxygen Destroyer. Not sure where this is coming from, but it feels like there's less evidence for this.

What we must all bear firmly in mind is that we know next to nothing with regards to the nature of this new incarnation of Google. He very well could be in the process of regeneration throughout Shin-Gojira - a concept I find to be most compelling! However, even if the images we have seen constitute his constant form, Godzilla's presence and weight as a monster will very likely carry the film with flying colors! This is, after all, Godzilla; the message and meanings that accompany the monster are the most important traits! There is little doubt in my mind that each of us will immediately sit down and grow very quiet the first time Godzilla appears in the film, for that is the effect he has on his fans - a subtle swell of pride, delight and fear within our chests that he has earned from more than half a century of being our world's top monster! :)

^Agreed.

I think, rather, I am convinced, that the first view of Godzilla in Shin Gojira will be astounding and mesmerizing. Even with the looks we may get between now and actually seeing the film, I expect to be stunned and awe-struck. I hope the live action footage includes reaction-shots of some of the principal characters to Godzilla's first appearance. And with his projected size, I expect a great sense of mass to be conveyed with every step.

If there is regeneration and transformation, I hope we get to see some of it as it takes place. This would be an excellent place to see the digital aspects of the 'hybrid' special effects. And, while I'm wishing out loud here, I would like to see a shot of Godzilla somehow 'reacting' to his regenerating/nuclear power-induced state. Something subtle that indicates his sentience.

Even at this speculation-saturated phase of production, all of the discussion about possible ties to 1954 and Godzilla possibly going through stages of regeneration-even without confirmation-is exciting. To me it indicates that a lot of thought and creativity is going into Shin Gojira; that it is being carefully crafted and filmed by loving hands, by people who respect and want to honor those who have gone before. But we knew this when Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi agreed to helm this most important and highly anticipated film.

Based on the pictures if legit. It reminds me of the 1954 version. This could be as one person said in the forum from the recent nuclear accident in Japan. I hope that Godzilla will look more like the traditional monster with his nose, eyes and ears with more teeth. The last TOHO Godzilla looked like my gray and white panther cat, 20 pounds, ears pulled back, 3 inch fang teeth and lean muscle. I have battle scars to prove it. Make the monster more realistic instead of being deformed from the leaked pictures. Also use some of the traditional music when the movie starts like in Godzilla vs Camera. Use the beating drums when Godzilla invades a city. I think a mixture of old school and new will make it unique as the first movie in 12 years for TOHO Productions.

SOMETHING REAL-This model is striking.

If Shin Gojira is endowed with an atmosphere, a feel that is like the look of this model, then we're in for something perhaps, heretofore unseen in the series since 1954.

I'm really looking forward to a riveting, meaningful story and narrative to go with what we hope will be spectacular visuals.
