Since it says installments I'm guessing legendary is now securing rights to other monsters for the future 3rd movie. Rodan Mothra, and Ghidorah are toho's most iconic monsters(behind Godzilla of course) I don't think you can add other big monster in the movie without weighing it down with a Spiderman 3 scenario.
These are the monsters I want. Baragon, Anguirus, Biollante, Orga,(I just made his new origin story in my image) and Titanosaurus.
@ DURO: "Rodan Mothra, and Ghidorah are toho's most iconic monsters(behind Godzilla of course) I don't think you can add other big monster in the movie without weighing it down with a Spiderman 3 scenario."
Ahem...
Also, "Spider-Man 3" scenario? You mean the first SM trilogy or the rebooted "The Amazing Spider-Man" trilogy? Because Venom in SM3 is clearly above Green Goblin and Doc Oc from the first 2 films in that trilogy and Carnage, who they're saying might be in TASM3 is the most powerful of all the 'Spider-Man' villains just like Destroyah (see above) is the most powerful of all the Toho monsters (yes, more than Ghidorah). Also, Destroyah being in the 3rd movie actually sounds like a real possibility now with Ghidorah being announced for the 2nd film, and they could supplement him with monsters of smiliar stature in MechaGodzilla, Biollante and Anguirus.
As much as i love Godzilla vs Destroyah, that movie is iconic because Godzilla dying not because of Destroyah. There's no question Ghidorah and Mothra are more iconic than Destroyah, they have too much history. Rodan's in the same boat, he had his own movie as an intro and has appeared in more Godzilla movies than any other monster besides MechaG(who could arguably also be with the top iconic monsters) and a baby godzilla(be in minilla, or JR)
And what I mean with the Spiderman 3, which also could apply to the newest installment, is that the studio was so concerned with filling the movie with big names, that I don't think anyone was happy with the development each character got. Spiderman 3, Venom got the stick making him having the smallest role despite being one of the series biggest villains, in Amazing spiderman 2, Green Goblin just came in at the end so they'd have well I won't spoil it for anyone, but simply say a way to follow the comic's version of Gwen, and rhino, well not much to say there, he's nonexistant. Having big names isn't always good if you can't develop the monsters. In the new movie assuming Rodan Mothra and King Ghidorah all appear, they will all need backstories, or some type of introduction, I mean think about the newest Godzilla the whole first act was developing the muto, multiply that by three and you have what a movie with all those new monsters would have to do.
Oh, you mean cluttering the 2nd movie up with more monsters just like SM3 in the original trilogy was, I thought you meant downgrading the scale of monsters for the 3rd installment. Yeah, I get what you're saying now, but seriously, the 2nd movie is already pretty cluttered to SM3 levels as it is. Unless you're doing a DAM sequel/remake (which I definitely picture them doing for the 3rd film), it makes no sense to throw in any more monsters to this 2nd film, and the article did discuss adding more monsters for future films.
To be fair here, Legendary never said all three monsters would be in Godzilla 2. They've said,
and
It's not exactly clear if all three will be in Godzilla 2 or if the monsters will be spread over the next two films. My interpretation of it is that Legendary doesn't have a story or script yet, wanted to keep the movie in the eye of the public and announced which monsters they had the rights to just to create buzz and chatter. And it worked.
See since they revealed that Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah, would be joining him, and then made the post saying several other monsters would be joining him I interpreted they meant the first 3 would be in the next movie with more joining in the future.
There's also the fact hollywood likes to one up everything in the sequels so since 3 monsters were present in the first I didn't find it strange they would try to cram 4 into the second. Of course you're probably right but it's not unthinkable that all 3 could be in the second one.
It's not unthinkable, but at the moment, I think the plan was merely to hype fans with what they had. The only people saying all three will be in the next film are news outlets reporting it. I doubt Legendary knows if all three will be in the movie or not.
Actually, it's my understanding that they specifically confirmed those 3 for the second movie at the Legendary Comic Con panel and others (such as Anguirus, possibly MechaGodzilla, Biollante or even Destoroyah) will be added later on for the 3rd movie, heck, it even says in the aforementioned article "Joining Godzilla in future franchise installments will be several other classic monsters from Toho Co." So there you go, it clearly says more will be added after the fact once Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah have their go in the 2nd film.
I'm with G-man on this and if I had my own way-- well then Rodan and Mothra would get their own films and it would lead into a Ghidra movie-- marvel movie universe style.
Rodan is an amazing monster that deserves to be more than a co-star.
"Rodan is an amazing monster that deserves to be more than a co-star."
I've never argreed with anything I've seen on this forum as much as I do this statement
"Joining Godzilla in future franchise installments will be several other classic monsters from Toho Co." So there you go, it clearly says more will be added after the fact"
But it's not very clear. That's the tweet they posted after the tweet where they announced specific monsters. The other "classic monsters" might have just been short for, "Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah." There is no direct information from Legendary that says all three will be in the second film.
