The plot is quite unique to the genre, and the opposing personalities of the Gargantuas Sanda and Gaira are brought amazingly to life on screen, in terms of both the plot and the effects. The sets, suits, and miniatures are among the best Eiji Tsuburaya ever realized in a kaiju film, and Horuo Nakajima, who played numerous Toho monsters other than Godzilla, considers Gaira his greatest and best role as a kaiju, and that's certainly saying something!
Check out Classic Media's amazing DVD set, which contains three amazing titles: Rodan, War of the Gargantuas, and the incredible, feature length documentary Bringing Godzilla Down to Size! This doc is mind blowingly wonderful, if you've never seen it! It can be found as an extra on the Rodan disk. As for War of the Gargantuas, the disk contains both the Japanese version, and the equaly good dubbed American version released by UPA in the late 60's.
You will NOT be dissapointed... although your words mighty get stuck in your throat! :)

AdminGodzillaJul-17-2014 9:43 AMFantastic movie. One of the best and most fun daikaiju films of the 1960s directed by Ishiro Honda. It easily stands up to the Godzilla films at the time.
It's sort of a psuedo-sequel to Frankenstein Conquers the World, (also a great movie) but you can still enjoy and understand everything without having seen that film. Worth every penny.
