How did you liked the CG in the (extended look) video?
In my opinion nothing can beat the first tail poster's effects. I liked the last shot, as well as the MUTOs.
The power plant scene, some of the Godzilla scene and Tsunami scene still look poor, but other scenes look friggin epic!!!! AWESOME
^ I'm just guessing here, but I think the old cameras are going to be used in the flashback when they try nuking Godzilla.
I'm kind of surprised at how many people think it wasn't that good lol I don't think it's fair to compare it to PR because the whole selling point of that film was the visual effects. Godzilla on the other hand is focusing a lot more on story as well as spectacle. Even then though I thought most of the cgi moments were on par with PR, and some were better.
I just can't wait to see this movie in theater quality instead of 1080p, it's going to look awesome.
I thought the CGI had definitely improved. The shot of the fin breaking through the train track has certainly been touched up.
I think the CG goes from passable to poor. Some of the city destruction scenes look pretty bad, but then again, I didn't expect the greatest qualiity CG from the film.
That sounds really negative but its not.
So yeah I was a bit more impressed with PR's CG, but that is because the director knew he was making a bullshit movie and didn't try to hide behind realism for it.
Anytime you try to copy realism, its going to be harder to pull off a plausible CG.
Its passable at best and that is all I'm going to say about it. Doesn't mean I'm annoyed or disappointed or wont like the movie-- considering I'd sit through this film if it were claymation or suitmation.
It's pretty good. I've seen better and worse.

You guys who say the chi sucks can shut up. The movie haven't come out yet, and you already judge the movie. People who compare godzilla to Pacific rim can stop to. Pacific rim was completely different then godzilla. Pacific rim was more like a comic book style with neon lights and colorful fights. Godzilla is dark and brutal compared to flashy and colorfull. In my opinion godzilla blows Pacific rim out of the water with graphics and chi because of how realistic godzilla looks and the destuction. Pacific rim is not even close to how godzilla portrays destuction and chaos! Not even close! The monsters in Pacific rim look like bad in my opinion

Generally, yeah I agree people shouldn't judge effects shots shown a long time prior to release. But Gareth Edwards himself about 2 weeks ago said that he was done editing the film. So yeah, these are most likely final looks that we are seeing in the TV Spots and this most recent trailer.
Nobody (in this thread anyway) is trying to say that Godzilla and Pacific Rim are similar films. Just talking about effects only. And effects wise, I think the only way to call Godzilla's 'top notch' is if you're looking at this thing with rose-colored glasses.
That doesn't mean we are judging the film harshly or have a negative attitude about it. I think we're all still stoked for the film. The story, tone, and cast all look fantastic.
Finally, the OP specifically ASKED us for our opinions about the effects. So telling people to shut up if they aren't giving 100% gushy compliment laden endorsements is a little ridiculous.
Many of the shots we've had are only glimpses at whatever Godzilla's doing. I think a lot of the poor ones are simply just lighting from whatever scenario is going on.
You people are idiots if you're crticizing the CGI just by looking at only these few pictures. Looking at the new clips Legendary realeased, the CGI looks amazing. Kaijujira, you should've posted some of the recently released pictures, like the one where Godzilla is being bombarded with missiles, or Aaron Taylor looking as Godzilla's hand slams the ground.
Life is very simple, but we insist on making it complicated.
Totally agree with you Zaffzilla. The monster cgi in Pacific Rim didn't look that great. And the fact that people are actually comparing that movie with Godzilla is possibly a huge slap to Big G himself. I don't care whether the cgi was good, Pacific Rim failed at all other aspects.

I don't think it looks fake....
"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
To those of you who say Pacific Rim's CGI looks better, I disagree. Just because a film uses a lot of CG doesn't mean it's good. Avatar proves this. When I watch Godzilla commercials, I see the CG, but I gloss over it. When I see Pacific Rim, all I see is CG. Godzilla uses the CG so much more effectively and efficiently.
@Duratok,
The difference between the teaser trailer on a laptop with nice speakers, a large HD TV with a nice sound system, and a Movie theater experience is extremely noticable. It looks way better the bigger you go.
