Predatory?

MemberGodzillaMar 29, 20142895 Views26 RepliesHello there. I've been thinking a tad bit on the whole idea that Godzila and the MUTO organisms feed on radiation and I've a small question: is it possible for them to sustain their body masses through the consumption of highly-diffuse photons (radiation) alone? Or can we expect them to require more...solid food? Are they predatory, and, if so, what would be their ideal prey? Surely something large enough to be worth their while? Then again, perhaps they're content to scoop up handfulls of screaming people and gobble them up like Skittles! Your conjecture is always welcome, even if you keep it to yourselves.

That last part made me laugh. XD
Anyway, that is a really interesting question. I hadn't really thought about that. I would think that they would have to feed on more than just radiation to survive, but that's pretty tough because.... what else WOULD they eat?
I suppose I could see the MUTOs eating... people. But not Godzilla. He's never eaten people before, not to my knowledge. So it would be surprising to see him do it here. Also, from what I've heard, humans are kinda like ants to Godzilla. He doesn't really notice them. So eating humans seems kind of out of the question to me.
That said, I have no idea, to be honest. Your guess is as good as mine. Like I said, I would think that they would have to feed on something more, but being that the range of options for them to choose from is pretty limited, maybe radiation is all they need.

Something RealMarch 29, 2014
Indeed. I've a feeling this will be revealed to us - at least in part - during the film. As for the limitted food supply: as there aren't any dinosaurs left and blue whales are hard to come by, perhaps Godzilla and the MUTO organisms will have to make due with consuming nuclaer warheads...or one-another.

Dinozilla0439March 29, 2014
True. I could see the MUTOs seeing Godzilla as a food source, being that they feed on his radiation from what I know. Or it's at least the assumption. Interesting if Godzilla actually saw THEM as one. A predatory Godzilla. Hm, interesting.

Dinozilla0439March 29, 2014
Actually, yes, now that you mention it, that would be pretty unsettling. XD
MagggleShackleMarch 29, 2014
Well godzilla was going to kill and eat a monster in a early draft of godzilla vs biollante, that being said in this version he might of ate other monster in the past for their radiation, but now that I think nuclaer weapons take that spot in his diet.

Something RealMarch 29, 2014
MAGGLESHACKLE - Really? He was going to eat another monster? That's extremely compelling! I like that. Godzilla vs. Biollante was always a good film for me. :)

Something RealMarch 30, 2014
Hmmm...you know what? I've just had a thought. What if the ancient species from which Godzilla hails were canibalistic? They'd present a large enough food source for one another - and what if Godzilla's "ancient enemy" is in fact a creature resultant of that terrible cycle of "eat or be eaten"? Perhaps the MUTO organisms were once the same species as Godzilla and have been, um, altered by their choice of cuisine.
ZillaForLifeMarch 30, 2014
No matter how hard i try, I just can't picture godzilla actually eating something solid. Yet saying that (and I'm no evolutionary expert)why would godzilla need a mouth if he's not going to use it for eating.
Evan123March 30, 2014
That's brilliant actually SOMETHING REAL, it's going to be extremely interesting to see how this unfolds in the film. It would be acceptable to see the muto creatures devour humans "like skittles" haha but somehow I just can't see godzilla doing it.
How far can we push nature before it pushes back?

Something RealMarch 30, 2014
EVAN123 - Thanks. :) You're a sweetheart. But I wouldn't put to much stock in my hypothesis. Who knows what delights Edwards' has actually thought up. :)
Evan123March 30, 2014
Too true, all we can do is speculate as of now!

Indeed...but waiting is SO painful sometimes! This girl needs Godzilla! NOW! ;)

Here I found something on Wikipedia:
In his 2006 re-evaluation, Carpenter examined the paleobiology of giant sauropods, including Amphicoelias, and addresses the question of why this group attained such a huge size. He pointed out that gigantic sizes were reached early in sauropod evolution, with very large sized species present as early as the late Triassic Period, and concluded that whatever evolutionary pressure caused large size was present from the early origins of the group. Carpenter cited several studies of giant mammalian herbivores, such as elephants and rhinoceros, which showed that larger size in plant-eating animals leads to greater efficiency in digesting food. Since larger animals have longer digestive systems, food is kept in digestion for significantly longer periods of time, allowing large animals to survive on lower-quality food sources

Well since according to the background we have on Godzilla so far it's said he comes from a time when the radiation was much higher and it effected a bunch of monsters in his era. So since nuclear reactors that I'm guessing they attack now to feed on radiation didn't exist it makes sense they, at 1 point at least fed off eachother to quench their thurst.
Thus I see it being very likely that if Godzilla and the mutos are from the same time era, they once saw eachother as food sources, maybe more for 1 than the other.

In an early draft of the orignial movie, Godzilla was supposed to make his appearance with a cow in his mouth. In a early draft of Godzilla Vs Biollante, he was supposed to figh a ratmonster, kill it and eat it. Godzilla Jr killed whales in Godzilla vs Destoroyah. Plus in Destroy All Monsters, they said that the monsters can feed as they choose on the island and we see Rodan kill a dolphin. I think it is posable for Godzilla to sustain himself on more than just radiation and I like the idea of it. Makes him more realistic in a way to me. Perhaps he only needs to hunt if there is a lack of radiation.

Would be scary for the MUTO's to eat people -- BUT it shouldn't be shown, it would be scarier if it wasn't (the things that arent seen are always the scariest)

I second all of this, but I would like to add something: Godzilla lives primarily at the bottom of the ocean where, theoretically, huge animals live. So, I assume that Godzilla likely feeds on mostly marine animals, likely whales, possibly giant or colossal squid.
Any other ideas people?

I think the Muto do eat humans, because what are they doing attacking the train in the train scene of all the trailers. Were they just curious or were they hungry?

Maybe the Mutos eat Godzilla and he is forced use his atomic Breath and he is too weak to fight and they take some fleash and then thats Damaged Godzilla but i think Godzilla will use the atomic breath more than 3 times maybe 5.
TW_G-Fan2014March 30, 2014
Well, technically speaking Godzilla and the Muto creatures wouldn't be able to sustain themselves, period. In any real world they could never exist, but in this movie world they are allowed to ignore the whole sustenance thing so long as they have at least one major form of it. Radiation absorbtion for creatures that thrive on it is about as good a logic as movies need. The suspension of disbelief is their key to success in that regard.

ZodgillaMarch 30, 2014
Actually, Godzilla is way too large to survive on a solid, organic food source. Even at extreme ocean depths, how many marine lifeforms large enough to sustain a creature that size can there be? How long before that supply ran out? If anything, organic food sources would have to be secondary or complimentary to his survival.

SMAUG THE MAGNIFICENT - That's a very well thought-out and researched response you have there. Thank you. :) DEVIANEIST - hahaha! That's magnificent! I love the play on Skittles!

both could be predators. isnt that what godzilla is right? somone on here even said that the muto and godzilla were enimies.

DevianteistApril 01, 2014
@Something Real- We can only hope they make a Godzilla-Skittles commercial. :D
Also, @Zodgilla, you make a very valid point. I believe Tw_G-Fan2014 is correct, in that sense.
