This is an interesting question I've been wondering for a bit. What type of effects would a Godzilla/Kaiju attack cause IRL?

The most likely would be world-wide panic, economic collapse and collapse of modern society maybe...

It would depend on how powerful they are. If it's wistand a nuke, completely unstoppable Godzilla, then yeah there's some big changes that are going to happen. The world would most likely have a reverse nuclear arms race, trying to get rid of nukes as quickly as possible so they don't attract Godzilla. If Godzilla decides to terrorize a single country then it would most likely be abandonded. Could you imagine Godzilla rampaging in a ghost city? No screams, no artillary, just him.

So I guess it means that EVERYTHING near water would probably be abandoned? I wonder if this would force Godzilla to move more inland. Making a new home in a lake in China maybe? Other monsters like Ghidorah would force EVERYWHERE to have a military unit nearby.

Or maybe the world dumps all there nukes/waste on an island and set up a highly reactive nuclear kaiju paradise?

A huge amount of money would be dumped into trying to stop the creatures. Nothing is unstoppable in the real world. It might be highly resistant, but in nukes don't work I can see biological warfare coming in very heavily. Maybe similar to the monster island concept in destroy all monsters, find something the monster don't and surround cities with it. it might not necessarily hurt them, but drive them away.

@DURPOO4

I could definitly see that working. In the last few decades it seems Godzilla does not hold up too well when his internal organs are damaged. Maybe contaminating the water he's in, or somehow making him ingest something that goes to work on his organs could do the trick.

If Godzilla was the only monster attacking Earth I think humanity could possibly survive. If it's a world like Destroy All Monsters or Final Wars.... I think we'd just cease to exist eventually lol

Kaiju movie sales would plummet.

If the creatures themselves are radioactive by extension of their nuclear food source, the world would very likely begin to see an immense rise in cancer cases and all-out radiation poisoning. The human species would begin to collapse under the figurative weight of the kaiju each time one made landfall or rose up. It would be much like dealing with living nuclear weapons that can go wherever they like and are not limited to one point of destruction. Even killing one would have dire and long-lasting consequences. The corpse would likely remain radioactive for many decades - if not centuries - and anythinjg that got too close would be in real danger of radiation poisoning.

I think, on a more global and political scale, Godzilla vs. Biollante is an interesting peek at the real world reacting to Godzilla. Think about it:

Godzilla survived the effects of nuclear bombs-- finding out the secret to how he survived those effects would be world altering. Suddenly atomic warfare means less. Thus, with Godzilla's cells scattered all over Tokyo in 1984 it made sense that varies countries and agents would be sent to Tokyo to try and study them.

Other countries would want that information kept secret. Why? So nuclear arms retain their danger and effectiveness, of course. The fictional country, Sardina, wanted Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria because if it proved effective at neutralizing Godzilla, it could also neutralize nuclear energy/fallout.

Experimentation with Godzilla cells could lead to mutation and misfires, as seen with Biollante herself. There's no guarantee Godzilla's secrets would be unlocked immediately.

Godzilla's existance would plunge the politcal world into absolute chaos. The fact that he can survive the effects of nuclear weapons means the answer to neutralizing its effects lie with him. If anyone gets that kind of information you get... well... you get the kind of stuff we saw in Godzilla vs. Biollante indefinitely.

I definetley like the ideas many have had here.

What other possibilites could there be?
