Why there might be two Godzillas

From various sources who saw the 20-minute preview. Each quote should link to the relevant review:

First, there's a big secret full of awesome:

"We also learned a plot point that makes the film 400% more awesome, but Gareth swore us all to secrecy"

It's about a monster:

"It's noted in the report that Gareth Edwards asked them not to leak specific details about the monsters in the movie"

It's in the HALO jump scene in San Francisco:

Theyshowed the “skydiving” scene from the trailer, with something huge added in. Edwards said, “When you want to watch a movie with a kaiju like Godzilla, you don’t just want to see it fighting humans.”

We've been led to believe it's Godzilla, but it's not:

Lastly, I got an extended look at the HALO jump from the first trailer. It was every bit as dramatic as the promo would lead you to believe. You’ve seen a good portion of this.... once the jumpers get lower to the surface of a burning San Francisco, they don’t see exactly what the teaser trailer suggests…

So, exactly what else looks kind of like Godzilla, but doesn't quite match? Is it this?

I think the MUTOs might just be the warmup for the final act: a big Godzilla vs. "Godzilla" fight. Please someone convince me that I'm reading these facts wrong.

Interesting. I really like to consider that possibility, I love the idea!

That may explain why Godzilla's design looks different from time to time.

Also, by the way, doesn't the form and orientation of those spines remind you of a certain very controversial Kaiju...

I'm Zilla!!!

I don't know, to me the idea of two gojis is kinda dumb. I feel like that would be jumping the shark(or in this case the Godzilla)

As opposed to, say, Mecha-Godzilla?

It is way out there, imo, but I'm trying to figure out how else to explain those quotes.

Especially the last one.

i have a feeling that the last quote refers to something other than godzilla, because its pretty obvious that that is godzilla in the jump scene, this is backed up by multiple posters. what the quote might actially mean is that godzilla attacking is not all that is happening, there coudl be somethin going on down on the ground, maybe something muto related, no one can really say at this point.

My theory is there are several thousand Godzillas that fuse together into one big Godzilla.

He is 350ft Tall people, those things on his neck ARE gills, and the Brazil photo is part of the final advertising design-- Deal with it.

ok, I totally agree that it could be Godzilla. However, I just can't see how that it being "Godzilla vs. a Muto" would be such a highly-secretive plot point. After all, the reviewers ARE talking about other monsters, so the fact that Godzilla is going to be fighting them can't possibly be "400% more awesome". After all, just about EVERY Godzilla movie ever made (exc 1954 & 1998) have him fighting other giant monsters.

It really has to be something more than just Godzilla fighting a MUTO.

But what, I don't know. The reviewer says the teaser is not what it appears to be. It appears to be Godzilla, right? But it's not. It's either "not Godzilla" or it's "Godzilla and something else so big and super awesome that we are sworn to secrecy".

This is what I was thinking, but it also doesnt make sense at the same time. Seriously though ,the way they are saying "OH ITS A HUGE SECRET!" "WE SAW THE HALO JUMP AND THE TWIST IS 10000% TWISTY! HUGE SECRET!" and exxagerating it, why would it just be a Muto they are landing on?

That wouldn't be such a secret to hide, it would be actually VERY underwhelming. THey keep hyping this secret like its the biggest secret ever in the movie "Gareth edwards told us not to tell you this huge spoiler and mega-twist!", if it really ends up just them landing near muto or near the fight, ill be underwhelmed because they hyped it like it was some serious shit. The way they explain it, it only makes sense if it was something like 2 Godzilla's or whatever.

"Godzilla and something else so big", if they are talking about the MUTO, then it's no secret really, we know that already. If it does turn out to be MUTO, i will be underwhelmed by their OVER-HYPE of the so called secret.

And everyone is willing to suggest that huge skeleton is another Godzilla without blinking an eye. Why is a 2nd dead Godzilla more believable than a 2nd live Godzilla?

ok, here's another piece of evidence... what I call, for lack of a better phrase, evidence by omission. In other words, it's what is NOT said that is telling.

In the last quote I linked in the OP, look at these two comments:

"The next scene focused on Godzilla’s first stomps onto American soil as he set about wrecking poor tourists’ holidays on Honolulu. In this extended sequence, we saw Ken Wantanabe watching from an aircraft carrier as Godzilla passes under the ship..."

"That and once the jumpers get lower to the surface of a burning San Francisco, they don’t see exactly what the teaser trailer suggests…"

See what he did there? The writer has absolutely no qualms about revealing clearly that Godzilla attacks Honolulu. But when it comes to San Francisco, he suddenly gets very coy about whether that is really Godzilla or not.

It all smells very fishy to me. It's also very possible that the teaser trailer is intentionally misleading and that Godzilla was placed into the scene specifically for the teaser.

interesting, so are you saying that godzilla was basically the "stand in" for something else in that trailer?

Hmmm I 200% disagree with RF on this theory. The train scene could just be a MUTO who has spikes and besides those are too small and diffrent shaped to be godzilla's spikes. And your statement about the halo jump made no sense at all. Your proof i'm afraid...is not enough.

I swear to god, if there are two Godzillas running around with the Mutos, I'm going to fucking livid.
Even having a skelleton of an old one kinda irks me.

I want to see something along the lines of the Original Godzilla film. Not Godzilla: Final Wars FFS.

I can't really explain why, but for some reason it'd bother me also if there was another Godzilla present in this film. The skeleton from the trailer, if that does belong to another Godzilla, also bothers me, and I'm not sure exactly why.

Maybe it just seems to me that he should be the one and only Godzilla at this point, with no lesser clones, and should fight against only the MUTOs and humanity, not against one of his own kind.

Guys, ultimately -- I don't know. I am just trying to figure out what best fits the disparate hints we've been given from different reviewers.

There seems to be a consensus about a huge surprise in the SF Halo shot, and it's almost certainly not a MUTO.

Please note that I'm not saying it's exactly another GODZILLA. I think it's more likely to be a Godzilla-type of kaiju.

I recall another post on this forum (which I can't find) where someone linked the image of a bust of a supposed Godzilla before the trailer came out. There response from Legendary (or the director) was "that's not our Godzilla".

Does anyone know what or where that image is? Didn't it have a kind of alligator snout?
