Hey Guest, want to add your say?

I placed my pre-order in for Sea Monster, Hedorah, Gigan, and all the Sony Double Features. I'm debating on whether I should get KK vs G, KK Escapes, the Destroy All Monsters Blu Ray, the Megalon Blu Ray, the Gamera Blu Rays, King Kong '05 Steelbox, Zilla The Series and the Sci-Fi 4 Set with Mothra or not, and since I have the Criterion Collection Blu Ray release of Godzilla '54, I don't think I'll be picking that up anytime soon.

@Member of the Planet X
I wouldn't bother with the re-release of Classic Media's Godzilla '54 DVD unless you're a completist and want the special features that Criterion doesn't have. The Criterion version is far superior.
As for the rest, it's all down to preference.

It was my understanding that the Godzilla vs Megalon Blu was shelved because the US distributer and Toho couldn't agree on content/special features? Hell, even Amazon.com lists it as unavailable.
Wraith0711, I heard the same thing.
Also, the price of all the sony Godzilla releases changed:
GvKingGhidorah/GvMothra - $16.99
GvMechaG/GvSpaceG - $13.59
GvDestroyah/GvMegagurius - $16.99
Final Wars/S.O.S. - $14.99

@Wraith0711,
The issues between Toho and Media Blasters has been resolved. However, the upcoming Godzilla vs. Megalon Bluray will be barebones and not include any special features. Media Blasters has yet to contact Amazon.com about their upcoming release. It will be released this July.
@JinTheDragon,
Thanks for the heads up. I'll update when I have a chance.

Cool on the release date, Thank you for the info Sir. Will they be releasing anything else in july that you've heard of? Been looking high and low for a Japanese language version of G2000, find listings on them and get them but always turns out the same dubbed english/french dvd I already have.

As of right now, all the July releases are listed above.
I know that another company is in talks to acquire the rights to Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla... But I have no clue what company that is, what their plans are or when they'll be released.
The last three Godzilla movies Sony has to release on Bluray are Godzilla 2000, GMK and Godzilla against MechaGodzilla. If the sales for the Sony Blurays listed above sell well, it's likely Sony will release these three when Legendary's Godzilla hits DVD/Bluray.
I'm just guessing, but it's very likely GMK and Godzilla against MechaGodzilla would be a Bluray double feature and Godzilla 2000 would be a two disc set itself since the Japanese and American cuts are so different. Sony has already said the (re)release of those three movies depends on the sales for their upcoming Bluray.
As of right now there is no North American release for the Japanese version of Godzilla 2000.

You misunderstand, I'm not looking for the Japanese dvd, I'm looking for the american dvd colombia/tristar release of G2000 with a JAPANESE AUDIO TRACK if there is even one in existence. I hate watching dubbed G movies, they are almost unwatchable.

I understood fine, I guess I simply wasn't clear enough. In short: What you're looking for does not exist. Sony has yet to release the Japanese "audio track", but because there are significant changes between the American and Japanese versions, it wouldn't be as simple as putting in a Japanese audio track.
Sony made enough cuts and edits to Godzilla 2000 where it would be impossible to sync a Japanese audio track to their version. Thus an entirely different version (Toho's Japanese version) would have to be released from Sony in order for you to watch the film in Japanese language. (Hence, Japanese version.) This may happen if their upcoming Bluray prove successful.

Thank You! Finally somebody with a solid answer AND explaination to boot. For real, thank you for the information. Can finally stop looking and also: Job very well done on this thread. Can tell a lot of time went into it. Lesson learned: You want info? Don't ask a store, ask a fan!

UPDATE #11: Amazon pre-orders / prices for Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla vs. Megalon Blurays added to the original post.

For those interested, here's a few reviews of the upcoming releases:
Godzilla on Monster Island (Godzilla vs. Gigan) (DVD Version)
Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II / Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla

There's a question I have about Destroy All Monsters' DVD/Blu-Ray reissue. I've read from reviews on Amazon that the initial DVD/Blu-Ray release included the AIP dub as well as Toho's international dub. Will the reissue have the AIP dub as well, or will it only have the inernational dub?

@Angzilla,
At this time I can't give you a sure fire answer. There were early rumors that stated the AIP dub was still attached to the re-issue.
Recently an acquaintance of mine went to a Chiller show where they were selling early copies of the Destroy All Monsters re-issue. The Media Blasters representative said there was no AIP dub on the disc. Just the Toho international version. There is, of course, the off chance that the rep could'v been mistaken...
My guess is no AIP dub, but we probably won't know for sure until this July.

Please! Can anyone confirm if the sony double feature blu ray's are region free or at least region a and b? I would also like to know if the 3 kraken release godzilla movies are region free. Has anyone tested this on different blu ray players. If so I would like to know a.s.a.p

Both the Kraken and Sony discs are Region A only.

Sony released a new trailer for the Blurays released this week:
I was so glad when I saw the new 2 packs show up at wal mart where I was shopping. Have never seen the Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla so I got that 2 pack and watched it :D (was awesome) I just ordered the only copy I saw of the return of Godzilla dvd from amazon, but man that would sure be cool if they ever get it to blu ray as well, always my favorite godzilla movie. One of my roomates has this old 65 inch projection tv that we watched all the original black and white godzilla movies on (god the godzilla collection on dvd), definitely the best way to watch em :D
I just got my Amazon order this morning with all the Godzilla Blu-Rays that came out this past week. I watched the Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah/Godzilla vs. Mothra 2pack, and it's awesome. The sound is great, the picture is great, and I'm pleased to announce the Japanese Tracks are awesome. It takes away a lot of the Campiness that the English versions have.

^Glad to hear they're solid. they've been getting mixed reviews. I should be reviewing the Destoroyah / Megaguirus 2-pack soon. I heard the King Ghidorah / Mothra set still doesn't have the end credits intact which is a major let down for me.
And it looks like I need to replace the pictures in this thread again... what a pain.

Hey everyone, at the beginning of this post godzilla destroys all monsters is listed as releasing july 22nd. I pre ordered mine from walmart.com and received it by May 3rd. Most of the re-releases are not being carried in store so you'll most likely have to order them online. Most retailers have them listed as available online only.

I just checked Amazon to see how much Godzilla vs. Biollante on Blu-Ray was, with it being the last flim on Blu-Ray I needed of the Hesei series, not including Godzilla 1984, and it was 45 dollars! I've been hearing that is "out-of-print" Do you think they will release another version of the Blu-Ray?

Godzilla vs. Biollante is going out of print and my not return to Bluray for a long time. I'll try to find an alternative for you, but I'd knab it before it gets into the hundreds like Destroy All Monsters.

Whoa, there's this option. It's unavailable through amazon, but two other sellers have it for $17.99. Infortunately it also comes with two awful Asylum movies, but it's the cheapest I've seen the movie available:

UPDATE: I actually went back and updated the prices (most are cheaper), a few special features and listed the release dates as "RELEASED!" for the movies that are finally available. As of right now, the only ones we're left waiting on (officially) are the re-releases of Destroy All Monsters and the Godzilla vs. Megalon bluray.
Rumors (and little tweets in my ear from unmentionable sources) are circulating that Son of Godzilla, Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla, Godzilla 2000, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, Godzilla against MechaGodzilla and Rebirth of Mothra 1,2 and 3 may all be released on Bluray later this year. Stay tuned.
gman2887, great thread this one! thanks for all updates.
Just curious, any info if the Rodan movie will be released in bluray format? So far only Japanese receive the bluray release (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/TBR-19164D) and no English version included. I'd love to have the bluray format containing both Japanese version and English version included, just like when it was released on DVD format.

Ardian,
The link you provided is for the Japanese only release. It's Toho's bluray that includes no english subtitles.
The North American distributor for Rodan is Classic Media. Currently they have no plans to release any of their Godzilla/Toho catalog on bluray. Your best bet would be to get a mass of fans to email them about it and cross your fingers.
Hi Gman2887...thanks so much for the reply. That's a pity to hear that Classic Media won't release those early Godzilla movies in bluray for now. However, I read that their bluray version of the 1st Godzilla movie is rather disappointing, compared to Criterion's version. So looks like I'll have to buy the DVD of Rodan/War of the Gargantuas for now, it's pretty cheap too in Amazon at the moment.
Yup, of course I understand that the Japanese bluray contains no English subtitles. I was actually amazed that ALL of Godzilla movies receive bluray release/re-release in June in Japan... but considering these are highly expensive and has no English subtitles, I will still have to rely on the US distributors to work on the bluray versions.

Forgive me if it's already been mentioned but I just wanted to point out that the double features all came with digital copies (Ultraviolet). The Kraken releases DID NOT have the digital copies. Was really happy with them all. Any news on possible release date on G2014? Or any more on the rumers you mentioned Gman2887?

Wraith0711,
Yeah I neglected to mention the digital copies for no particular reason. But thanks for mentioning it.
Currently the only rumors my little birds have chirped in my ear is that:
1) Expect Godzilla '14 around August-November.
2) Sony may be releasing a GMK/Godzilla x MechaGodzilla Double Feature Bluray around the same time as Godzilla '14 is released on DVD/Bluray.
3) Sony is likely giving Godzilla 2000 a 2 disc special edition, which explains why it wasn't part of any Double Features. The reason for this is that Sony put more money into it for its theatrical release and because of the differences in sound/editing between the Japanese and American versions it will be put on two seperate discs, ala, Classic Media's DVD edition of Gojira/Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
4) Another distributor has picked up Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla '74 for a Bluray release.
5) The Rebirth of Mothra trilogy may be released soon on Bluray in a single Triple Feature set around the same time as Godzilla '14.
Again, all of these are rumors and yet to be confirmed. So take everything here with a hefty grain of salt. Or two.
Silly question, but if Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla get a blu-ray release, they'll get a dvd release too, right?

MaybeToby,
Maybe, maybe not. It depends on the distributor and what they deem most profitable. The Heisei/Millennium films were re-released with Japanese audio, credits, widescreen and extras on Bluray. But Sony has no intention for re-releasing them on DVD.
Meanwhile, Kraken Releasing put all three of their Showa movies out on both DVD and Bluray.
You can't ever tell with this niche market.

not sure if anyone noticed the mistake on the re-release of the godzilla king of the monsters dvd, but the thing is on the back of the dvd it says that these movies were released in 1964 instead of 1954 and that is a huge mistake, figured i would point that out to you guys. :)

Shame, I'm more interested in completing my dvd collection than starting up a blu-ray collection. Especially since I don't have a blu-ray player. I got lucky that a lot of the Showa films were re-released on dvd because of the new film. I don't feel like paying $100+ for Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla '74.

It's not confirmed they won't be on DVD as well, but even if that's the case Godzilla Blurays typically go cheap. I would certainly consider upgrading at some point as the Heisei releases on bluray are far superior to their DVD counterparts.

Found this on WalMart's website. I'm not sure if it's completely legit but it's the most specific release dates and descriptions I've found :)

Dalek,
That's been up for awhile. It's likely just a place holder date. We won't know for certain until Warner Bros. makes an official announcment, which is what I'm waiting on.

I recently happened upon this image online:

No telling if they're real, but if they are real they may just be the European covers to these films. The 3D Bluray edition is on Amazon France's website:
http://www.amazon.fr/Godzilla-Blu-ray-3D-Aaron-Taylor-Johnson/dp/B00KBZ4G2W?tag=hidefnin0a-21
So we don't know if these are A) Official and B) Official to North America.
France has the European release date for September 17th. That's still yet to be confirmed.

Ahhh I hope that is the real cover for the dvd since i don't have a blu-ray. :)
Nice find there gman. :)
