True American Godzilla
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-15-2013 4:18 PMAfter my estimated 779' size I, like some of you, have questioned this estimate. Yes, even I question it. I wasn't very happy with it because I didn't have something right NEXT TO Godzilla (at least I could identify) its size to use as a "point of comparison".
Thanks to my good friend Kyero, I was reminded about Edwards comments/hints to Godzilla's size. To quote Kyero who saw the interview concerning the size, "He mentions how certain buildings that were the tallest in the world such as the Empire State Building and then the Chrysler Building were outdone little by little over the years by others around the world, and that's what he's done with his Godzilla."
I said to myself "Okay, let's do that. Let's say the difference between the American Godzilla and the Japanese Gojira, who's 328' tall at best in the movies, is the same ratio as the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building."
The Empire State Building (or ESB) is 1,454' tall. The Chrysler Building (CB) is 1,046' tall. Let's put these into a formula, where AG represents our unknown American Godzilla height.
1,454' {ESB} AG
----------- = ---------
1,046' {CB} 328' {tallest Japanese Gojira in films}
476,912 = 1046AG
456' = AG
So just purely by this calculation, of using the size difference of those two buildings to get the to get the size difference of the American Godzilla to Japanese Gojira, we get a height of 456' tall.
If this is true, then I'm really sorry about that v1 wallpaper showing 779' Godzilla. I was hoping to AVOID putting a size that was way off.
Besides, when Godzilla roars at the end of the trailer, we see taller buildings than Godzilla, and neither one resemble the 2 tallest buildings in San Francisco. This should have been a painfully obvious point that Godzilla can't be in the 700s.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-15-2013 5:06 PMI don't think you over estimated at all my friend. During the halo jump, he looks to be about a block or 2 away from the 555 building. And in a rather crouched state. As the view is at the top of the building, his head is straight away...and i truely believe that in order to come accross as the "force of nature" that he is, he has to be big enough to topple any structure on the planet. Plain and simple. People have to fear him. 300 feet has been done. but Godzilla is the wrath of GOD. And that's what Gareth Edwards wants to convey.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-15-2013 6:32 PMWe'll be guessing this until something solid is said by Gareth or the others making the movie. That or wait until the Art of Destruction book is out in March or April about this movie.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-15-2013 7:03 PMSo the new Godzilla will be over 456 feet tall?

GODZILLA HIMSELF
MemberMothra LarvaeDec-15-2013 8:16 PMas i have stated on various discussions, the largest godzilla so far was in marvel comics. he was 150 meters, so the new godzilla will have to be bigger than that, somwere over 500 feet basically.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-16-2013 12:13 AMI agree with Kyero and The True American Godzilla about the height. I say that 779 feet does sound quite outlandish compared to the older Godzilla's and the fact that Gareth said he was just going to be a little bigger. But, what I have a hard time looking past is that shot in the teaser trailer where he is not far from what is without a doubt the 555 California building in San Francisco. I know the angle may be somewhat misleading possibly but whether he is hunched over or not in that shot he looks massive and regardless of numbers and statements it is hard to look past that. Even though I don't want a Godzilla that is so big he dwarfs massive buildings or that he can't even hide, this Godzilla is going to be plain big and scary. We can speculate and debate all that we want (which is good) but none of us will have a better idea till we get something official before or during the movie I guess.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-16-2013 8:47 AMWon't be much of a "force of nature" if he's to small to topple some buildings...that's why i say around 800 is more believable. You won't convince anyone of his greatness if he is to small...sry, my opinion.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-16-2013 8:50 AMAnd also,..look at the poster...that fella falling near him is a mear speck if dust next to him...he is much higher than the bridge behind him...doubt they would release a poster that greatly exagerates his height...

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-16-2013 8:28 PM779 would've been too big. You guys are looking too hard into it, the director himself said he'd be bigger than before, but not by much. You're taking it too seriously. At the end of the day, just be happy that he'll at LEAST be as big as he was in the heisei series, but not as big as you estimated. Just wait and see.
