Haruo Nakajima was the suit actor. He played Godzilla from the first movie through [i]Godzilla vs. Gigan[/i] before retiring. They pulled him up with wires to get him to jump so high. If you look closely at it on DVD you can barely make out the wires behind him.

TRUE AMERICAN GODZILLA@ I know Godzilla in the movie will be the destroyer of the worlds but he is still the king of the monsters he,s the most popular more popular then King kong and gamera
