Okay so from the info we have it seems almost certain that the new enemy in the upcoming movie is an insect like kaiju, and does this disappoint any1 else? I mean Godzilla's had such a broad range of enemies and some have been some of the best looking monster debatably in any movies for their time so it seems like kind of a cop out to just fall back on the basic insect like monster with this upcoming 1.
Now I'm not saying bring back the old monsters they are better, but at least replace them with something we haven't seen. So far just off toy info and fan speculation it appears that there will be numerous smaller muto with perhaps a much larger winged queen or king that will fight godzilla. Now this could be completely wrong and the mutos could all be different types of lesser enemies with a larger none related monster being the main enemy and fighting Godzilla, but if not that idea seems almost the exact same idea as the Megaguirus.
I was really looking forward to some new types like perhaps finally seeing a radiated mammal type kaiju, or at least a more original idea than the insect 1.
Personally if the mutos do prove to be the main enemies and are all insect I'll be fairly disappointed, as thus far all the insect monsters to appear have been just overall weak, and bad enemies when compared to others, besides possibly megaguirus, but does any1 else with they perhaps went in a different direction than the insects?
I will admit i see the argument that this is the first movie and they'd make decent starters, but you could honestly say that with any new monster for the most part.

MemberMothra LarvaeNov-04-2013 11:56 PMFrom the synopsis I read at Legendary, it could go all kinds of ways. If the leaked trailer I saw is legit (the one with the Oppenheimer narration), then the multi-armed thing was pretty cool looking. I'm guessing again, but it sounded like there would be more than one kaiju. Maybe genetic experiments gone awry, in which case, we'd probably be looking at bugs, other reptilians and even maybe a rodent (or how about a kaiju lab bunny?)
I'm not passing judgment just yet. Even your standard giant insect could be cool depending on what they do with it.

MemberMothra LarvaeNov-05-2013 12:05 AMTo be fair, the only "realistic" monsters Godzilla has ever faced were:
Kamakuras - praying mantis
Kumonga - spider
Mothra - moth
Megaguirus - dragonfly (prehistoric in nature, but still based on a real ancient dragonfly)
King Kong - ape
Ebirah - lobster
Giant Condor - condor
All of Godzillas other allies/enemies were based off of fantasy creatures or fake dinosaur species. Half of his realistic enemies are in fact insects or arachnids.

MemberMothra LarvaeNov-05-2013 2:14 AMRemember, Edwards said there would be more than one enemy for the big guy. Wheter this means more MUTO`s of the same kind, or maybe some warrior bug/queen/something entirely different. But he wont be alone. And Edwards wouldnt put in enemies for him that doesnt serve a purpose, they will put up a fight im sure.

MemberBaragonNov-05-2013 4:47 AMI think you're confusing realistic with unimaginative as the very thought of a small creature like a mantis or spider growing that large is just as preposterous as an alien coming down from space, or a robot from the future.
Honestly I don't feel the multi armed creature will be in the movie, to show a teaser 2 years before it's done and only showing the creature, what appears to be dead, doesn't really look that good for a chance it has to be in the finished product, especially when I've heard that scene was switched out for the new insect scene in the new 1.
It's not really if they are a challenge as much as just really unimaginative. I mean you can mutate it slightly, but a bug will still be a bug just larger when the movie comes out; unless of course they go the Megalon route and make it humanoid, but highly doubt that.
Just personally really disappointed that we're getting a bug enemy over all the new animals that could have been mutated instead since honestly any bug getting radiated story would sound just as unrealistic as if they went with another newer idea.
Granted this is just my preference as I hate bug enemies and find them to be by far the weakest enemies in all aspects, but it seems they had so many outlets and had their choice of any monster, why not bring out something new?

MemberTitanosaurusNov-05-2013 6:53 AMWell,we need some smaller mutant enemy type(s) that the military can reliably kill at all,and bugs are the best candidate for that position because they fit the whole swarm mentality better than any other living creature. I'm sure the inevitable big bad will be something a bit more unique and strong enough to challenge Godzilla, but is likely separate from the proclaimed "Mutos".

MemberMothra LarvaeNov-05-2013 1:52 PMMy thoughts are this. If Godzilla is accurate or closer to the Godzilla of old, just spruced up, and actually has his atomic breathe, then that will be good enough for me. To worry about Godzilla having a monster to destroy or have a reason to have a Godzilla movie, is just hyper thinking. Let the movie start with an introduction, let him destroy NY, LONDON, and JAPAN. Then have him come back in a sequel and kick ass on some giant monster. If we get a monster, even for a few minutes in this first reboot. Then great. otherwise, its just a waste of time to even worry about how and who the creature is.

MemberMothra LarvaeNov-05-2013 2:36 PMWhy dont they just stick with Godzilla alone like the first Godzilla movie back in 1954. That idea was so bad ass then introduce a monster or two in a sequel and then a monster bash destroy all monsters type in the trilogy. And then have Godzilla fight king kong. I dont understand how they wanna go grounded with a mutiple monster fight in this first one. Then again we all thought this movie would be cann but after seeing the video footage suposibly "leaked" (SDCC trailer @least) than this fillm is in good hands. If the director was someone big and made this decions than wed be pretty much screwed right now. Time will tell how good this movie will be.

MemberBaragonNov-05-2013 7:47 PM1. Godzilla's never fought a turtle in any moves on screen.
2. To say we shouldn't care about the enemy is something I don't agree with at all as really the enemies in every movie set the tone and plot for the movie as much as Godzilla himself in most cases
The reason I don't think they're starting with just Godzilla is because that is actually a fairly difficult plot to pull off in the current time. That and I think we have gotten somewhat spoiled by his list of enemies and one of the main complaints from the tristar version being that he had no one to fight.

MemberMothra LarvaeNov-05-2013 8:40 PMmaybe the mutos could be food for the 2nd kaiju. im saying this because it reminded me of the original rodan movie. in the movie rodan ate these large larvae type bugs in the volcano where rodan laid dormant.
