Godzilla vs. Kong has officially hit theaters in North America and is now available to stream on platforms like HBO Max and Amazon Prime and Monsterverse fans will notice upon watching the film that this is the only entry in Legendary and Warner Brothers' Monsterverse series that does NOT contain a post-credits scene. However, director Adam Wingard recently unveiled to GamesRadar, that what they originally had for a post-credits scene was actually rolled into the film's ending instead:
We originally shot a post-credits scene, but then we ended up using the footage in the actual movie. It was one of those things, when we were doing our final stage in the editing, we realized we didn’t have a strong enough ending. Without giving too much away, the actual ending of the film is from footage that we had taken from a post-credits scene. Being crafty in an indie movie way, we actually ended up using that.
For those who have seen the movie, we know now that Godzilla and Kong are essentially kings of their own realms, Godzilla maintaining order on the surface while Kong reigns supreme in the Hollow Earth. This ending would have made for a great post-credit scene but ultimately the ending for Godzilla vs. Kong did a fine job of teasing a promising future for the Monsterverse well beyond Godzilla vs. Kong. With the Hollow Earth now exposed and accessible, there are so many new directions and possibilities this series could take on!
