My list is a bit different from the rest of yours
Battle one: Godzilla vs King Ghidorah in Antarctica. I think this is going to be our opening round that Godzilla will inevitably loose.
Battle Two and Three: I think this will be our introduction to Mothra and Rodan and that they will fight the unknown Kaiju we saw in the trailer. If I remember correctly they said we would see a lot of monsters in this film.
Battle Four: A powered up Godzilla vs Rodan. I doubt that with as much of a Godzilla and Rodan fan that Daughrty (sp?) is that he would miss out on a fight like this.
Battle Five: Personally I want to see a dogfight between Mothra and Rodan. Just and all out air to air slug fest showcasing how incredible these Kaiju are and how truly powerful they are.
Battle Six: Mothra and maybe Rodan vs King Ghidorah. Okay this might be a wish list but still. Maybe during the above fight Ghidorah shows up Rodan either fights him with Mothra or joins him and they fight Mothra together. Gives a cool chance for them to showcase the Godrays from Mothra
Battle Seven: Godzilla vs King Ghidorah in Boston, we saw it in the trailer
Battle Seven part two: Mothra and Rodan join the battle and either fight Ghidorah with Godzilla or pick sides and it becomes and all out monster brawl.
Just my thoughts
I think the run makes sense, we have evidence to suggest some VERY large dinosaurs could run. Obviously the G-man is in a weight class all his own in that respect, but my point remains. The way he leans forward like a T-Rex or Giganotasaurus would probably run is really cool and makes him feel more like a living breathing animal. I love the older movies, both Showa and Heisei, but I think the way Legendary is handling Godzilla is really well done.
Oh and side note, if you've ever seen an elephant run, it's kind of scary something that big can move as fast as it does.
I know some others said this but Ford is very uninteresting, he didn’t have any development nor did he have a completed story arc (if he had one in the first place). Elle is there as a damsel in distress and to be honest it feels like the kid is just there to make us want Ford to come back alive. I still like these characters but not as much as the characters from Godzilla X Mechagodzilla. King Of The Monsters may be different because Michael Dougherty said that he was trying to make us love the characters while balancing the monster action. But overall the MonsterVerse so far has mostly underdeveloped characters. If you want a real feel for these characters then I recommended reading the official movie novelizations.
That third picture down is freaking adorable, he looks like a big puppy waiting for treats. Love Neca though, all praise to their quality sculpting.
"Fire Godzilla", aka what the Tristar CEO said after they decided not to move forward with the 1998 sequel.
Battle 1: Godzilla vs King Ghidorah in Antartica
Battle 2: Rodan vs King Ghidorah in Isla de Mara
Battle 3: Godzilla vs King Ghidorah in Isla de Mara
Battle 4: Godzilla and Mothra vs King Ghidorah and Rodan in Boston
I wonder if they ran in to some rights issues with the name, "Burning Godzilla". I can't find any official trademark of the name, but I recall Pipeworks having some issues using the form in Godzilla: Unleashed. So they called it "Critical Mass" instead and got away with it.
During the production of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah the form was called "Red Godzilla". Immediately following the release of the movie, merchandise and toys merely called the design Godzilla '95.
It wasn't until later that toy releases started calling it "Burning Godzilla". It seems like "Burning Godzilla" is merely a fan name that got popular and Toho ended up using it, sort of like Ultraman Jack. But if that were the case, I wonder why Pipeworks had issues with it back in 2007.
In any case, it's clearly meant to be an Easter Egg referencing Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. What it's called shouldn't really matter since the form's had three titles before "Fire Godzilla".
The last thing I'm worried about for this movie is the battles being entertaining.
Here is a list of 5 battles I could see happening in the movie.
1. Rodan VS Godzilla on Isla de Mara. though it is likely that Godzilla won't show up at all during this scene.
2. Ghidorah VS Godzilla in antartica. we saw the start of this fight in the trailer.
3. Mothra VS Rodan (and Ghidorah) in the sky. They made sure that Mothra is battle ready and a fight like this could really show that.
4. Godzilla and Mothra VS Rodan and Ghidorah in Boston. Though we only saw Godzilla and Ghidorah in Boston, I think there is a high possability that Rodan and Mothra are in this fight as well.
5. Godzilla, Mothra and Rodan VS Ghidorah in Boston. This ties into number 4 because I think Rodan will turn on Ghidorah after fighting with Ghidorah for the majority of the movie.
Im okay with it as long as he has a nuclear pulse or spiral ray
I appreciate that KaijuWorld, that means a lot.
Kind of generic, but as long as the name is not mentioned a lot (if at all) then I will be fine with it.
First of all, thanks Chris for linking my topic. Really shows your support of my series :).
And King Gargantuas, you did a great job at explaining the thematical part of Biollante so don't think that you didn't try hard enough. Also, yeah I can see what you meant by saying that my story was a lot like the original. It was less of a How to include and more of a How to modernize though I think all of my topics could be called out on that.
Aside from Fire Godzilla not being a state where Godzilla will eventually reach meltdown (assumingely), is there a difference between Fire Godzilla and Burning Godzilla? As long as Godzilla has the Spiral Red Atomic Breath or something like it I'm happy.
Hmmm........ kinda generic and tame.
I feel like a more exciting and impactful title ought to be brought in. Maybe Radiant Godzilla? Thermal Godzilla?
MAXIMUM OVER-GODZILLA? XD
I appreciate the link. It definitely felt like his way of incorporating her into the Monsterverse felt rather similar to how her origins were done in her movie way back when. I guess my article was more focused on how she would fit in more thematically rather than how she would be incorporated. I probably should've tried harder to make that more clear. Thanks anyway.
You should check out this topic ;)
^Correct. Though I wonder if stipulations can be made for finales. We don't know what's changed since 2014.
Probably now THE most favorite piece I've ever seen!
I think I heard somewhere that it’s in Legendary’s contract that Godzilla cannot die in their movies.
My first movie was the 2014 movie when I was in 6th grade, and I loved Godzilla and other Kaiju ever since.
RR44,
"Japanese fans embraced shin G... and it made a lot of money over there... but it did not do well here..."
This isn't true at all. It was only released in select theaters and was one of the highest grossing indie/select releases of the year. It garnered positive reviews in America and the American based Saturn Awards even nominated it for best foreign film.
"I think they'll be able to see which version of Godzilla appeals to them best... and I'm betting that Shin Gojira will become a flash in the pan... while Godzilla KOM will become the new face for generations to come."
I wouldn't bet on it. Japanese reaction to the Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailers have been lukewarm. Here's a quote from one of the most reliable English speaking, Japanese Box Office analysts that has been watching and predicting Japanese numbers for over a decade. He operates from World of KJ:
"I'm not really expecting too much from it. Probably a gross similar to the 2014 film, maybe slightly less. It has average online presence, at best, and I don't really believe there's a large audience that is too interested in Hollywood's new Godzilla films.
Godzilla, the 2014 film, did decently, but it dropped 43% compared to the 1998 film; and Toho's critcially-acclaimed Shin Godzilla did more than 2.5x its business just a couple years ago.
The inclusion of other iconic monsters (Mothra, in particular) might generate some interest, but it's not like Japanese audiences haven't seen them all together many times before, so... The designs, from what I can tell, look fine, but the Japanese are also quite critical when Hollywood adapts domestic material (the 2014 Godzilla design was described as "obese" or "western" by some) and it rarely works out.
The sequel also looks like a darker film, in both when everything is happening and its tone, and that usually doesn't play well in the market."
Godzilla 98 was my favorite movie when I was a kid I was watching it everyday and I had a lot of toys of Zilla. I did not watch any others Godzilla movies during my childhood but my obsession for monsters and Kaiju grew up during this time. But it's just recently when Godzilla 2014 came out that I discovered the true Kaiju and Toho universe and now I'm just complitely obssessed with King Ghidorah and the others and I have no regrets !
I did not undestand the end and that ruined everything to me, but it's clearly not the worst Godzilla movie, I think that this place belong to Final Wars but I'm pleasantly surprised not to see more Zilla in your suggestions. ( Not a good movie but it made my childhood )
If I had to summarize this third movies theme... it would be this... inevitability death comes to us all... and how we face that knowing we are nothing more than creature who exist for a time and that there is nothing more to us than the life we live... and you must accept the inevitable. Ghidorah being the inevitable. What a crock of horse crap.
That is what I got from watching that horrible piece of garbage that is passed off as a Godzilla film. The ending was utterly stupid in my opinion. Godzilla himself was the only redeeming quality in all 3 movies.
Never again will I watch any of those flicks because they are pointless. It's a story that in my opinion... was poorly written and like shin Gojira... totally boring and particularly absent of creative thought. In other words... what creativity went into these films... was lazy. My imagination could have come up with a better story line for all of those movies and made them more worth while... but TOHO rushed production on Shin Gojira... and it shows... and the anime series... awful in my opinion. Missed golden opportunities in my opinion.
Japanese fans embraced shin G... and it made a lot of money over there... but it did not do well here... and KOM will do well here and when the Japanese fan base see's KOM... I think they'll be able to see which version of Godzilla appeals to them best... and I'm betting that Shin Gojira will become a flash in the pan... while Godzilla KOM will become the new face for generations to come.
Doughtery is a true fan. Could not ask for a better pick for this movie.
While other Godzillas have been seen running in the franchise before, that was when they were depicted by actors in suits, meaning that they ultimately ran like actual Humans.
Unlike them, this Godzilla is depicted by CGI, and thus they can afford less Human-styled means of locomotion. Notice that he kinda leans forward and tucks his arms in a bit, almost like a theropod dinosaur such as a Velociraptor. In fact, Shinagawa-kun (the 3rd form of Shin Godzilla) displays a similar kind of running style, which makes sense since he's also depicted by CGI.
I don't know what everybody's going on about. We've seen Godzilla run in other movies. I just watched the Heisei & Millennium series, and saw him run twice, once in one of the last 3 Heisei movies, & then once in either 2000 or Final Wars. There are probably more in those series, and everyone knows he ran in the Showa movies. He lumbers everywhere, but when another monster shows up, he breaks into a run towards them every now & then.
Godzilla x Megaguirus, Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla: Final Wars...
No, there are at least a few that are worse. Space Godzilla and Destroyah just to name two. I would also say it is the best of the trilogy.
That video is hilarious and awesome.
It's also sad when people can't accept new information (to them) that contradicts an opinion they have just because they don't want to be wrong. It's okay to be wrong about something, it means you get to learn something new.
Not worst Godzilla movie... but it sucked in my book. Hated the ending.
My problem with Godzilla running is how it's animated. It looks like he's a fat kid running after the school bus he just missed. He also was somewhat slow and bulky in the 2014 film so not sure the sudden change but maybe that has something with the rumors of him getting an upgrade via nuclear radiation...
The mosnterverse mecha-godzilla should look like the ready player one versionversion because it looked designed like the monsterverse godzilla.
You were probably expecting a different kind of movie. Planet Eater and the other anime films are more about the human characters, Haruo especially, than Godzilla.
I think Monsterverse Godzilla's design is perfect. Shin Godzilla has hartman hips, pregnant belly, and fat rolls on his legs!
I agree with I'mDurp with Godzilla vs Hedorah being the most terrible godzilla movie
Those are some pretty cool ideas. Especially the color changing eyes depending on their power level. Hopefully, we will get a Monsterverse Mechagodzilla someday.
There's no side of Godzilla we can see that can save that movie from its wretched screenplay and magically developed characters. At least Godzilla: The Planet Eater tried to give us some relevant topics to think about. SpaceGodzilla literally, I mean literally, tries to warn us not to pollute space without linking it to anything relevant.
And as boring as people find the Planet Eater's battle, at least it didn't drag on and on and on as long as the boring final battle from SpaceGodzilla.
That Oxygen-Destroyer kaiju's name is Destoroyah
