junkerdeGodzilla 2014 ForumThe Leaked Script

just go to the james gange masercity forums, the mod there is the guy who has the script and the summary is all there. his username is snowdenzilla. He's gotten alot of scenes and pre-drafts correct BEFORE all of these were revealed so he has an early version of the script, which also kept some elements in (like the nuking in 1954 scene)

Danzilla93Godzilla 2014 ForumConcerning the HALO jump scene

Its not a dumb question at all!  That was bugging me too!  I think you're right: the Godzilla shot from the teaser was there to conceal the Muto.  I believe the scene may have been created specifically for the teaser, as it is definitely a tease for the monster that won't be needed at that point in the movie (if the HALO/Godzilla vs Winged Muto sequence is the final act of the film).  Eye witnesses of the extended HALO jump scene pointed out that the sequence dosn't depict exactly what the trailer implies, and the Godzilla vs Winged Muto shot seems to confirm that there was some skullduggery afoot with the teaser. :) I'm on the same page as Madison with the "400% more awesome" comment: chances are the media had NO IDEA that Godzilla would be fighting a monster in this film, because they haven't been following its production since 2009 like we have!  They likely went in expecting a Godzilla vs the Military scenario, like the one that appeared in the 1998 Godzilla, but were blown away when the Mutos were revealed.  But while they got to see the truth, we saw a newly created scene that hid the Muto and teased Godzilla, who was still a big mystery in early December 2013.  We barely glimpsed a Muto until the end of March, and our only shot of the HALO jump scene's true nature was a fleeting one.  Here's hoping we see a bit more soon! :)

@Destroyah-X- I don't understand why you persist on this "you are acting like you are smarter" thing.  All I'm saying is that a lot of people do not care to look into the details.  Why is that so hard to believe?  It has nothing to do with being smart...

I have nothing wrong with people not being a hardcore fan.  Hell, I am not a hardcore Godzilla fan, the only reason I follow is because I enjoy it and I am a member or Scified.  I'm simply stating what I have experienced from people.  I know quite a few people that did not notice the MUTO and did not take the time to pause the trailer.  And who cares?  The question on the forum was if they showed too much and I asnwered that most people have not noticed what is being shown on this site.

And let me make this crystal clear for you (because you are having trouble understanding this), it has absolutley nothing to do with that persons IQ and I have no problem that some people have not taken notice to the MUTO.  It was a simple observation of what the people around me that have seen the trailer say.

@Like a Bossk

Of course you never outrightly stated these people are dumb, but your statement literally meant that everyone else is ignorant about the presence of MUTOs except for people here like you, who are 'smart' enough to see that.

And I would like to stress to you, that it is no difficult feat to gather a screenshot from a movie trailer to get a better glimpse and people DON'T have to be hardcore fans of a movie to take screenshots. FYI, I am not a hardcore fan of Spider-man 2 nor the Transformers, but I hit the pause button on the trailers because I wanted to get a better look at scenes that go too fast to be spotted at first glance. Likewise, everyone else can do the same too.

Like I've said before, there's no hidden magic in those trailers that only Godzilla fans can unravel, it is only a matter of whether people are piqued enough to want to scrutinize those trailers to get a better look. This means a world of a difference between your claim of 'pure ignorance of the general crowd' over my reasoning that it is only a matter of whether they want to or not. And if they choose to, the Mutos can be spotted. Period.

Ah yes, the leaked script. It was also proven realy by the the trailer, specifically by the the drawing on the bomb with a monster head, which was also mentioned in said script.

I remember almost sorta stalking the guy who released the pages. I actually think i still have some of the pages saved on my computer.

Actually I dun think its got to do with whether the original trailer had intentionally left out the muto during that scene and then re-edited it to show the muto when they released the latest trailer.

Have you guys considered that maybe what you see could have been from a different angle/perspective? E.g. the earlier trailer where we only see Godzilla below could have been viewed through the lenses of say, trooper A who was making the halo jump?

And then in the latest trailer where we see both Muto and Godzilla, it could have been viewed through the lenses of another trooper who is descendng down from a further distance?

@Destroyah-X

I never once said the general audience is dumb nor do they not have the ability to take screen shots.  My point is, that most people are not looking for those tiny details.  Honestly, if you just watch the trailer and are not really paying attention to the specifics, you can easily miss the MUTO.

I have talked to multiple people that want to see the movie but are not necassarily huge fans and they didn't notice the MUTO.  Why would people other than hardcore fans take the time to take screen shots and pause to try to find little details in a trailer?

Nice info.  This will be my first time to G-Fest and I am flying in...tax to hotel where it is being held. Do they have shuttles that go to Pickwick Theatre?  Taxis readily there (if so how far is it from the hotel?) Just looking at driving options as beyond seeing the concert and maybe a movie there was no need for added expense of a rental car.

Thanks for additional info.

Godzilla, King Kong, Anguirus, Rodan, Mothra, Battra, King Caesar, Baragon and Varan vs King Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, Orga and Mechagodzilla (the original).

Godzilla and Kong vs Ghidorah

Mothra and Anguirus vs Gigan

Battra and Baragon vs Megalon

Rodan and King Caesar vs Orga

Varan vs Mechagodzilla

All of them at the same time, at Mt. Fuji. Why? Because it would be epic.

King Gidorah VS King Kong (from GzllavKng). I want somebody to have that crown stripped away.

MUTO VS Cloverfield monster (Clover). They're similar in overall anatomy, so why not?

DevianteistGodzilla ForumWhat is your typical G fan like? Is there even such a thing?

Typical G-fans are actually easy to "label." We are analyzers, speculaters and excited.

We want to know what's going to happen to our big friend.
We make conjectures about what may or may not actually happen or appear.
We get happy at the mere rumor he'll be coming back again.

We're also a lot more cohesive than most fanbases (not going to point fingers anywhere). We don't really jump at or claw people's throats out when they dissaprove of our ridiculous, yet amazing, Godzilla.

So, in all, we are a cohesive society that analyzes, conjectures and anticipates what we love most.

Anyone agree? Anybody got anything to add?

I don't believe there is a typical Godzilla fan. I've met several who cross a lot of age/ethnic/monetary backgrounds and I really don't think you can place a label on them that could stick. But in this day and age, we're sort of getting away from the typical image of the sweaty, overweight Star Wars geek who lives at home with bad skin. Fans can come from anywhere and it would surprise people to see which of us can contact to a fandom. I gurantee you that there will be a 10 yr old girl walking into this movie and less from a decade from now she will be sporting a back piece of Big G at G-Fest 20XX and you would have never guessed by looking at her. I'm loking forward to bringing new poeple into the fandom and being surprised by who they are.

@GodzillaTheKing

Well to be fair there's a lot of difference between the internet now and then. Evne if the site did exist(I was only 6 in 98 so I wasn't old enough to give any first hand advice on this) it's mostly about the people who had access to it. Now we have people on this site who I'm guessing are in their early teens and they naturally have a lot of anticipation, so it's more likely to have a 12 year old on this site saying this will be the best movie, or have the best characters, whereas chances are in 98 the people who had access to the site were a much more mature fanbase who didn't get as caught up in the hype as some of the younger members on this site may. I'm fairly sure had the 98 movie been released during a time the internet was more accessable to younger audiences the hype for it would be very similar to the reactions we're seeing for the upcoming 1. To be honest i would have most likely been 1 of those people saying how it was going to be the best movie and everything about it would be greater than any movie before so maybe I should give the younger people some slack.

@Dragonlord I agree. In fact after watching more of these Godzilla trailers, I actually find myself much more intrigued to know what the entire story really is about and the origins of the Mutos and I just can't wait to catch it in the cinema.

And ur right about Spiderman 2, they showed way too much and I wonder what difference is it going to make whether I catch the movie or not. The trailers basically sum up the whole story - Spidey against Electro and some foes from part of the Insidious Six, and then there's Oscorp, and if you ur a marvel-universe follower, its like watching another spidey-cartoon episode with characters you already know of, just that the plot's been tweaked.

You all do realize that there are much more things we dont know about the movie right? I figured that this movie's gonna have a bunch of other stories connected to the movie that we totally dont know yet.

So for me, I think the advertisements going well, its not like theyre doing it like Amazing Spiderman 2 where theyre showing WAAYYY too much stuff

Some folks here are just funny. From the start they descended on this site and forum trying desperately to extract more details and demanding that the producers give us more trailers and info to satisfy them. And when the folks at Legendary decide to release more footage, they are blamed for releasing too much lol. So what do they want really?

MadisonGodzilla 2014 Forumare you guys happy that gareth is putting godzilla back to his original roots?

As an addition: I should say that I'm trying to sound snobbish or say that original 1954 is the end all and be all of Godzilla movies.

Honestly, as Akagi as said before, Gojira 1954 is a boring movie. I've watched the cheesy 70's Showa films as well as the 1998 American film way more times, and enjoy them more. I will likely enjoy this new 2014 movie more than I do the 1954 film.

The poignancy and relevance of Gojira 1954 has faded. It was a very important film for its time. But it's time has passed.

So when I say that Godzilla 2014 will not be able to go back to the 'roots' of Gojira 1954, I'm not trying to say that it somehow will be a worse or less entertaining movie. I'm just saying that the impact that Godzilla 2014 will have modern audiences will NOT be the same as the impact that Gojira 1954 had on its audience way back when. In that regard, it's impossible for Godzilla 2014 to return to it's 'roots'.

Reply
MadisonGodzilla 2014 Forumare you guys happy that gareth is putting godzilla back to his original roots?

I do appreciate that they returning to the dark, serious tone for this film that is closer to the original 1954 movie. While I would enjoy/go see any Godzilla move that was made, I am happy we are getting one that is more somber than the later Toho movies.

However, there really is no way to replicate the impact and relevance that the 1954 film had during its time.

GMAN/AKAGI have already done a good job summing up Godzilla's cinematic impact. It won the Japanese equivalent of an Oscar for Special Effects, and launched a whole new genre of filmmaking. American films with similar Special Effects impacts would be things like the original Star Wars trilogy, The Matrix, or Avatar. This newest Godzilla movie won't quite revolutionize the industry like that.

But filmmaking aside, it's hard for a 2014 American Godzilla to return to the 'roots' of what the 1954 Japanese Godzilla was politically. 99.9% of the time a movie is just a movie. But for Godzilla, it really was something more. For an era when making movies about Hiroshima and Nagasaki was illegal in Japan, the original Gojira served as a cinematic work around to talk about those events. Godzilla really was 'the bomb' in a very powerful way that few character metaphors have been able to embody before or since.

The imagery and destruction in that movie tried to replicate what many Japanese cities actually looked like after the fire and nuclear bombings, as opposed to later films where the destruction scenes were shot for spectacle, not realism. When the movie was first released, it was so accurate, and stirred up such heavy emotions, that the movie was actually heavily criticized in Japan for trying to 'commodify' WW2. They later warmed up to it, and it was nominated for Best Picture in Japan.

In order for a modern Godzilla movie to even get close to that, you'd have to imagine a world where no movies about 9/11 had been made at all. Then you'd have to have Godzilla knock down the twin towers, and show the towers collapsing downward in the same way they actually fell. And even that wouldn't quite cut it, as 9/11 was a comparably trivial tragedy when compared to the bombings of WW2

Yes, Gareth Edwards is trying to make the tsunamis look 'real' and stuff like that, but it it's ultimately going to fall short of the significance of the 1954 film.

Which is fine. They SHOULDN'T be trying to replicate the significance of that film, as that film is significant specifically because of the massive tragedy that took place before it. We don't have a tragedy on that scale to talk about, and that's a good thing. The 1954 film doesn't have much resonance with modern American audiences because we are so removed from those times and events. But think, would you really WANT to be placed close to the time/location of any real life events similar to those?

Godzilla 2014 is going to be awesome from what I can tell so far. I'm going to love the movie if it plays out like the trailers are portraying. But the movie is ultimately just going to be a piece of entertainment with some political undertones. Rather than the 'therapy for a nation' which the 1954 film was. In that way, I guess I'm glad Godzilla isn't returning to its 'roots'.
