Through specific channels, I've had the pleasure of watching the first episode of Godzilla: Singular Point. After the disappointing character work in Godzilla vs. Kong it's nice to have a reminder that likable, working, feeling, relatable characters can still fill the kaiju genre.

To be clear, thus far, it is not an action series. It's a slow burn mystery carried by the sleuthing characters. It's very reminiscent of Ultra Q in that regard. All of them exist in a very real world, working odd jobs, finishing college and engaging in an inspired passion--In this particular instance, a passion for the paranormal and bizarre. They're practically Ghost Hunters or the X-Files--Again, very reminiscent of Ultra Q.

A highly engaging aspect is how this world is completely unprepared for what's about to happen. The last 5 minutes of the episode solidify that the existence of kaiju is going to spin their lives out of control. And a certain revelation about our favorite monster seems like an apocalyptic omen for things to come.

It's a great set up and the potential it has alone is worth waiting on. Can't wait to see what happens in the rest of this series.

sonictiger,
I would rather talk about Singular Point right now, as I find it more interesting. Let's stay on topic, thank you.

HinikunaGoji,
If you would like to view the first episode you can find it here.

Monster_Zero,
Pacific Rim: The Black is fantastic, but takes a hot minute to hook you in. It's a great addition to the franchise though. I hope one of these days Legendary makes a third film.

But at the moment, Singular Point has a stronger hook.

I see its scheduled to be on Netflix but I'm not able to watch it? How were you able to Gman? Are the specific channels open to the general public?

If episode 1 was a slow burn, introductory set-up for the characters and an Ultra Q-esque dynamic, episode 2 fired on all cylinders launching us into the mystery of the world introduced by a Rodan vs. Jet Jaguar battle.

I also really dig the opening credits. Focal point is absolutely on the characters, and they should be, but there's a looming, unshakable presence of Godzilla, who seems to be a bringer of the apocalypse in this iteration.

Definitely a lot going on to sink your teeth into. And Yun as an excellent lead protagonist.

Opening Credits (don't blink at 1:28)

Ending Credits (Good luck counting all of the Easter eggs in this one. I haven't even found them all.)

Okie Here are some references,

On the TV, the news anchor shares an uncanny resemblance To Kayako Ann Paterson from SHin Godzilla

There are scenes one with Biollante and one with Godzilla Jr's Egg, on the TV.

Maybe a reference to KOTm with a scene of a flaming winged Kaiju shot from a jet, and has the same color palette as the scene.

Letters in a code of some sort spelling out kaijus names one notable example is Anguirus

Image of Shokirus and possible reference to the main characters from the Japanese Son of Godzilla

People standing in Goji footprint, reference to 1998.

Kumonga

MOthra with clear SHobijin underneath, SPecifically the shobijin from tokyo sos.

MAnda and King CEsear

Kiryu and OG jet jaguar design

Hesei Goji Holding a train

THats what I found

No spoilers, but episode 4 is a stark reminder that the lead writer of Godzilla Singular Point has a PhD in physics and it shows.

I'm going to need to rewatch episode 4 another 7 times just to catch up on some of these ideas, because they go into some pretty heavy science/sci-fi material dealing with objects in different dimensional spaces, temporal inequality, sound waves, etc. I'm no fan of scientific accuracy, but the show is going hard and I love it keeps you on your toes.

I’m excited, I haven’t watched them because it feels wrong to watch it on a website. I thought it was illegal.

SarcasticGoji,
Understood--I usually put it on my TV regardless. But I'll be rewatching it on Netflix as well anyway. I'm curious about the English dub actors and how they're going to translate some of these words.
