So November takes a whole different atmosphere in my house. Everyday we watch 1 Godzilla movie all month long. But there are dozens of other great giant monsters movies to also watch. So this year we thought we would do a double feature every night. On November 1st we did Gojira and Varan the Unbelievable back to back. We watch the Godzilla movies in chronological order throughout the month.

So I thought we would turn to you all for some great double feature ideas. 2 rules. 1) They must be giant monster movies that would go great along a single Godzilla movie. 2) I would like the films to be within the same time period as the Godzilla movie you double billed it with. If not, no biggie. Just want to hear great ideas.

Please tell me what you would double bill with a Godzilla film.

Nov 1st - Gojira and Varan

I always love to start any marathon from the beginning. Gojira always reminds me of my childhood and is a pleasure to watch. The fact that it is in black and white only adds to the dark looming nature of the film. I can go on and on about this film but then I will never stop. Going right into Varan was a great transition. Also in black and white, I still feel like I never left the Gojira. Even though there are some scenes taken right out of Gojira to fit into Varan shamelessly. But I love the design of Varan and even the way he moves. He crawls, stands up on his hind legs and even flys and swims! It was like having the same great meal twice! I went for seconds.

Nov 2nd- Godzilla Raids Again into Rodan

Having to go from black and white into Toho's first colored movie Rodan was a fun rush. Rodan being one of the best films in Toho's golden age is also one of my favorite. Having elements of horror and suspense and mystery wrapped up in a film featuring giant monsters is a treat in itself. It was like biting into a carmel apple. First sweet with Godzilla Raids Again and then juicy with Rodan! A fun combo!

Nov 3rd - King Kong vs Godzilla with King Kong

I chose something to fit in with the nights theme. To see both Godzilla and King Kong in color for the first time for audiences back then was quite a treat. Then going back to a black and white masterpiece like King Kong was great in itself. Its great to see both of these monsters in their element and what made them both such great iconic monsters. Greatly anticipating Godzilla vs Kong in 2020 only amps up the excitement watching these films back to back. No need for a food analogy, I need room for all this popcorn that adds to the flavor of these climatic classics!

Nov 4th - Godzilla vs Mothra and Mothra

You guessed it. What other movie can possibly go with this movie entry!? Godzilla truly shows off his ability to over come anything mankind throws at him! One of my favorite suit designs as well. I tend to forget how enormous Mothra is compared to Godzilla in the film. I mean Godzilla looks like a salamander compared to her! They had to scale her down from her first appearance in her own film to fight the King Of the Monsters. If Godzilla is King, then Mothra is Queen of the monsters. Then finishing the night with Mothra. I know I keep going in this star wars esc approach to watching movies but its still a fun way to watch them. Mothra has a great pace to the movie, its one of the movies where the monster doesn't start the fight, she finishes it! Man intrudes on Mothra, kills her worshippers and takes the tiny twin fairies. She instead fights back to take back what is hers. A refreshing way to feature a monster. Instead of monster attacks man, man kills monster, this film takes on a different climax with a happier ending. I would say its like eating hot wings for this sci-fi double feature. You start off with some spicy hot wings then dip it into some blue cheese for a nice relief. Then just to do it all over again!

well the one in the middle of the "zombie" on-lookers is the same character from the beginning of the film where that fisherman brought in that tadpole Hedorah to the doctor. If he is a "spirit" did he die from hedorah? it just doesn't make any sense but im very intrigued by the whole scene with them. I want an answer damn-it!

thank you EmptyH for your insight, but im not satisfied with that as an answer. I want to know Banno's reason for their presence in the movie.

I thought Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla(1974) paired with King Kong Escapes was a fun mecha monster showdown!

it is the only time I will say a Fukada film outclasses a Honda film side by side like this. I can't stand the characters in KKE! I love the mecha king, but it's the only thing I think is great about the movie. Usually I praise Honda's films above all else. But I think King Kong Escapes is Honda's worst film. Anyone else have a different opinion on this?

This one might be a surprise you all.

I put Terror of Mechagodzilla and Gorgo together. I thought Gorgo and titanosaurus shared similar designs and made a great night.

I feel like if the 70's Godzilla movies were more like Terror Of MG, the 70's entries would have been a little better. Still love the 70's movies but ToMG is the best one of that decade.

I love him as well.

i also put The Return of Godzilla along King Kong(1976)! Both I feel like both films are the best of there series. That King Kong movie is the best KK film of them all. Yes even more than Peter Jacksons remake. That along with one of my top favorite Godzilla movies is a great time.

This one might seem silly and I know I might get some backlash. I put Godzilla vs Biollante with ...... Little Shop Of Horrors(the musical). I know what some of you are going to say. Little Shop Of Horrors isn't a giant monster movie. But the original ending(now on DVD! check it out!) I think has some of the best giant monster effects of that time! I resently just saw the directors cut with the original ending and it was soo fantastic I nearly cried! That film holds some great special FX and the fact that Audrey 2 takes over the world and destroys cities was stellar! I recommend that cut to anyone out there who disagrees with my monster mash up! But for Biollante's and Audrey 2's similar monster attributes is the reason for this double feature!

I think if the Heisei series stuck with the same dark atmosphere that both The Return of Godzilla and Godzilla vs Biollante both shared the series would have been at pare with the Showa era. These two films are the best in the Heisei series and I wish the rest of the series followed the trend that was layed out for them.

I paired Godzilla vs King Ghidorah with Rebirth of Mothra 3. A double Ghidorah mash. I like that Rebirth 3 reminds us that originally King Ghidorah wasn't just Godzilla's worst enemy, he was Mothra's as well.

Which leads me to ask a legit question, is Rebirth of Mothra in canon with the Heisei Godzilla series in anyway? If it is, I have way more questions.
