Toho to create a Godzilla film for the first time in 12 years

I want them to revisit on of the invading alien stroylines....preferably the black hole aliens..

No more Xyliens crap...i want it to have a revenge theme to it..

Also how cool would it be if they introduce a baby Godzilla in it that looks like Legendary's Godzilla!!!

I'm not really interested in Toho going backwards and revisting other continuities and designs. With a new producer involved I would hope he's smart enough to do two things, 1) Look forward and try some new ideas. 2) Seperate the film stylistically from the Legendary movie as much as possible.

What are those ideas and how to pull them off? I just don't know. But I know I'm not interested in seeing anything from the Showa, Heisei (not hensei) and Millennium series any more. I want a whole new crew, new directors, new writers. No more Tezuka, Okawara, Omori or Mimura.

I'm really, really excited about this movie too, but I felt like their announcement was a little classless. They said something along the lines of 'We will not bow down to the whims of Hollywood', a clear bash to the new film and it's producers.  I don't know what their beef is there, they have fully supported the movie, said they were fans even.  It made them a boatload of cash, too. Their latest Godzilla attempt wasn't anything to crow about, either.

My phone corrected Heisei to Hensei. Stupid phone.

Sweet! Hopefully it will be a more serious godzilla film. But i will take whatever they give me.

This is great news.

I am pleased as punch that Toho is making a Godzilla film. I am cautiously optimistic that lessons have been learned. To me, this means that there will a proper and sufficient production schedule, with plenty of time to work on pre- and post-production. It sounds like they're on to something: the script ifor 2016 release is already in development; film will be lensed between summer of 2015 and fall of 2016. Early story development, a much longer than usual production schedule gives one hope for a film that will be remarkable. All that is needed is a compelling design, a director with a vision and the freedom to not make a movie-by-the-numbers.

I hope that the story is Japan-centric in a way that taps into Japanese culture while being cutting edge and modern at the same time.

I'm with Gman and the King of the Monsters when it comes to the issue of suitmation.

Gman said it best: this is a unique form of visual expression and special effects. Japan pioneered it. It's theirs. Now is the time, under the proper circumstances (proper production time, lengthy script and story development and new talent) to show the world the beauty of this unparalleled art form. I'm hoping for a film that is very Japanese, and I think we're going to get it. Enhancement with CGI is expected, almost a given. But, a great film with convincing effects is possible (and most enjoyable) when artistry, vision, time and daring are brought together, using time-tested, traditional effects.

The statement by the Toho executive exhibited a kind of pride being at the core of this new venture.

It's funny and more than and a little ironic, but I was wondering if the big-budget, ultra-convincing effects and production values of Lengendary's Godzilla would somehow diminish my enjoyment of the Toho made films.

It hasn't.

In fact, it has enhanced my love for these films and the way they are carefully and lovingy crafted with the look thery have. That special look. Convincing enough to sweep you up into the story, but stylized enough to be the embodiment of an art form that satisfies in a way that totally digital effects cannot. Or, perhaps, are not meant to. 

The suit acting and the miniatures are beautiful in not only the way they look, but also in the way that we can relate to them. Because we are close to them.

I am looking forward to Toho's new Godzilla.
