It's been 16 long years. We need to stop looking at this guy with so much hatred.
Everyone knows he's not Godzilla. He's been renamed and promptly obliterated by the original.
But really, what Godzilla-kaiju HASN'T gotten its ass owned by the King?
The hate towards Zilla needs to end. He's a very interesting kaiju in of himself and deserves a respectable view. Now, I'm not saying we need to worship him or anythng along the lines of that, but really, we owe a lot to this guy. Had he not shown up, Toho would have never made a Godzilla film again, or at least for a REALLY long time. Godzilla 2000 was a direct response to the 1998 movie.
So, had Zilla not shown up, say goodbye to the Millennium Series. Say good-bye to Orga, Megaguirus, 2001 Baragon, Kiryu, 2004 Gigan, and Monster X I/II.
Zilla has done a lot for the Godzilla Franchise. Let's start showing him some respect.
Carnosaur,
The sarcasm isn't necessary. And while I share your opinion to some vague extent, I also don't think that having a massive cache of hatred for a fictional character is any more absurd than getting into an offensive flame debate about long dead animals as if someone offended a family member.
Well I mean this is a forum where opinions are asked and shared. Thus if a character is widely disliked chances are this would be the place to talk about it.
I kinda liked the 1998 Godzilla movie but Everyone is right it wasnt Godzilla it was Zilla but we all need to stop hateing him and pretending he dosn't exist.
I don't think the problem is that too many people don't like him. You can't just change what people do and don't like. I think the main issue is making sure those that don't do not try to actively ruin things for other people whom may think otherwise. Basically, as long we politely agree we all have different tastes, then everything is alright, regardless of what those tastes may be in particular.
i never really had a problem with zilla. the only reason why i liked him was because at least people that didnt know better were still recognizing godzilla. i have respect for anything that represents him. and he was so much different from the real godzila that i didn't even consider him as Godzilla. more of just a dinosaur in new york.
Nature doesn't deceive us; it is we who deceive ourselves.
@CARNOSAUR Dude, no one here has attacked you. The only one attacking others here is you, with your attempt to call my statements "idiocentricities."
*Rolls eyes*
Good god people can't we all get along?
As for the topic, i will never stop disliking that movie, that overgrown size iguana.

Yeah, what BBB said! We should all agree to that and then you'd all bow down to me as supreme overlord over anything and everything! Except for Godzilla of course :P
Carnosaur,
Linkzilla is correct. There was no attack on you by myself or others. There was however a suggestion to not be so snide with your comments which were further on the fringe of the word "attack" than anything directed at you.
If you don't understand the gentle ribbing of everything that came after the fact you're free to PM me (or others) that do get it.
Zilla may not be the best Kaiju but his still better than these annoyance

I love Zilla. He's one of my favorite Kaiju. Top favorite, actually.
I also like the movie. I've grown up with it and I've always enjoyed watching it. There are things I don't like about it, and admittedly it has flaws, but I don't dislike or hate it in any way.
People calling Zilla 'Godzilla' doesn't bother me at all, and that's because I grew up with this movie and always assumed (as a younger kid), that he was just a newer version of the real one. I know the difference now, but I still really just don't care if people call him Godzilla or not.
What I don't like is the lame battle in Final Wars between Zilla and Godzilla. I don't care what the intention was, it was lame. The fight in Rulers of Earth is so much better.
^Actually the die hard fan outcry against zilla or G98 is what got fans upset with to begin with. So, when final wars came out and shown us that fight we got what we wanted. Zilla buried, burnt, and choked on his final breath only to bow down to the king! :)

^that scene still lame and this is what the final wars should have been

@Bigbadben
I'm not part of that group, honestly. That's not what I wanted at all.
I don't understand, why does everyone want to see Zilla beaten so badly just because you don't like his movie? Seems kinda unfair, in my opinion. But I won't judge anyone for it.
And still, I knew what the intention was. Toho doesn't like Zilla and was giving fans what they wanted with that 'fight'. But I just found it disappointing and somewhat frustrating.
I guess part of it is that I feel bad for Zilla. Let's go with that whole 'giant mutated iguana' thing. He was an animal who didn't mean to hurt anyone except towards the end (and who wouldn't be enraged over the loss of their children)? And was shot at miserably until he died. People want to see an innocent animal badly obliterated because they dislike it? Oookay. :L
Granted, he wasn't so innocent in Final Wars, but he didn't do anything worse than Godzilla. And if a reason people hated him is because he WAS just an innocent animal, he made up for that in Godzilla: The Series and Final Wars itself. So I guess I just don't see why anyone took pleasure in watching that lame 'fight'. Honestly I felt bad for Zilla.
I hate any and all attempts to insult Zilla with things like that scene, but I've gotten used to it. It's upsetting to see people hate on and slam a monster that I grew up with. And here's a secret: I was introduced to Zilla awhile before Godzilla. I loved him first. So for me, it's like watching people hate on and insult the actual Godzilla.
I hope that one day Zilla won't be seen any differently than any other Toho monster, but I'm not counting on it.
DinoZilla..Read this link The reason why i hate zilla! That explains why I and most other DieHard fan's hate that filth.
Good grief.
^Yes, I understand that watching it in theaters for the first time and it being a huge letdown for you is a good enough reason to hate him, and if you do, you do.
But it's been sixteen years, I think it's time to let it go, at least a little. Also, that still isn't a good enough to me to want to see Zilla totally obliterated by Godzilla just because you hate him. I hate things, but that doesn't mean I want it in a movie just to see it annihilated because I hate it so much.
I don't mean to be rude or anything, but I find that whole thing a little ridiculous. Not hating Zilla, but hating him so much that you want him in a movie just so he can be miserably beaten.
Also, one more thing.
It wasn't Zilla that dishonored Godzilla. It was Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin.
Zilla doesn't dishonor Godzilla at all in Godzilla: The Series, other than looking like an iguana. I say blame the director, not the character.
To be honest, these old bitter attitudes towards the character are never going away, and for those who truly do hate him that much, there's no point in arguing with them about their hate. What I think many are missing in this equation is that personal opinions can really flare up when they feel they've been used or betrayed or whatnot in any way.
Fans of Godzilla before Zilla came on screen just happened to have latched onto the bad memory. It's easier for people to remain antagonistic against the character, because they felt wronged in the past. The past may just be that, the past, but we can't change perceptions. Only accept that they're either different or similar to our own, and maybe give reasons that could persuade others.
I do really dislike Zilla, and I'm glad that scene in Final Wars happened. Why? Because it allowed fans whom outraged at the character got what they wanted. They got a satisfying end to him, to satiate their hatred. Afterwards, they could decide whether they wanted to continue hating him, or finally be content.
Basically Gman123 hit the nail on the head.
Throughout the time I've been a member of this forum I've seen a lot of threads for and against Zilla, and honestly not one seems to have changed the opinion of anyone. The people that hate Zilla will continue to do so, no amount of threads or reasoning as to why anyone thinks he's great will change their opinion of him. That same can be said for anyone that likes Zilla and any media he's in; they will continue to do so no matter how many negatives are brought up about the monster or movie he's in.
So basically these threads literally change no one's opinions so let's stop making them? I'm sure anyone on this forum knows very well who does and does not like Zilla already no need to make more threads that basically sound off the pro and anti zilla roll calls.
For anyone who does want to talk about Zilla there's been a thread that's stickied here for quite some time.
