Hello,

This is my first time posting so please excuse any mistakes if there are any.

This is my question/suggestion to Gareth Edwards. I'm take every chance there is that this would actually get to him.

I just bought my Bluray of Godzilla today and after viewing the Extra Content, I see that Gareth Edwards was trying to use this technique where he puts the audience into the places of the people in the movie. Like from inside a car, from a helicopter, from the school bus on the bridge, etc. This is all so that we can get the sheer size and massiveness of the creature that is Godzilla.

My question is: Will he do this again in the second movie ? And below is my suggestion.

While I do understand that if you were to once again "introduce" Godzilla to the audience, it's important to let them know how giant Godzilla is. But in the second film, it would be a battle royale of 4 giant monsters. I believe using the techniques in the first film like the foreshadowing and the teasing (cutting away from battles) a second time would be completely unnecessary and quite honestly, annoying. I can guarantee a disastrously low rating if the Gareth Edwards make the audience approach the second film the same way as the first. And it's not only because the fans will be angry, it's also because then the movie probably deserve a low rating.

When you've chosen 3 monsters from the already existing Toho's Godzilla universe, it's obvious you wanted to appeal to the past fanbase. And these aren't any monsters, they are considered Godzilla's ultimate rivals. When you handle things like that, you need to hand over the spotlight to them.

Bottomline is, please just use the "impossible angles", no-one ever has been labeled guilty for doing that. Less focus on the humans, which most of us don't really care about (except if you can find other Bryan Cranston(s)), and of course, more shots of the monsters. Seriously, 11 minutes of Godzilla out of 123 minutes of a movie titled "Godzilla" is a but ridiculous, don't you think ? Many of us were understanding the new approach but there are many others that feel a bit cheated.

Thank you for reading !

OK just to make sure I'll give you the time frame of godzilla rising up from the sea at birth island, all the way to when he is going back into it

rises up roughtly 22.42

leave for japan: 41.55

That's a 19 minute difference, but just to give you the benefit of the doubt i'll start the timer when he confronts spacegodzilla at 38.02.

So that's almost a 4 minute time span right there and I'm not counting what is literally 2 minutes of watching his leave the water and walk onto the beach. Then there are the scenes he's in with yuki trying to shoot him and him going through the island, not to mention him destroying a city on his way to Fukuoka and running into MOGUERA. This of course all happens before that 30 minute fight even takes place.

This isn't about agreeing this is about pointing out you're using made up stats. If you got them from something give me the link as I just scrolled through the movie and there's no way you're 14 minute time frame(which was 12 before I pointed out that was in no way correct so you added 2 more.)

Durpoo- If you count him walking form the city to the ocean as actual screen time then fine, he is in the film for 18 minutes. I dont know what your problem is, whenever we have an arguement you find the most obscure things and use them to spite me, i have a stopwatch and i just went through all the Heisei films screen time.

Here is the outcome.

The Return of Godzilla- 9:20

Godzilla vs Biollante- 8:05

Godzilla vs King ghidorah- 7:12

Godzilla vs MechaG2- 14:25

Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla- 17:48

Godzilla vs destoroyah- 15:48

Most of these screen time jumps is from him just walking onto land or leaving, only 8 mintues or lower is the actual fight.

In Godzilla 2014 atleast the majority of his screen time is him actually doing things.

Good grief.

Guys, why do we continue to do this stuff? I shake my head everytime i see these things, it really is saddening.

GG, I appreciate your thoughts on Godzilla 2014. I liked it for what it was but with the dvd and blu-ray release i couldn't see the best parts of the movie at all.

@Everyone else,

Please lets all try to get along. Thank you.

Pike, great to see you again buddy. :)

It seems everyone forgets that throughout the whole movie the Mutos are usually in the scenes, and they are by FAR the one of the most interesting monsters I've ever watched in a kaiju movie. Everyone seems to forget that they exist though because all they wanted to see was Godzilla Godzilla Godzilla Godzilla. I also think that a lot of the negativity comes from a bandwagon state of mind, or a very pessimistic and analytical state of mind. If you watch a movie analytically, of course you're not going to enjoy it. That's your fault.

@the-true-barman-yes, some of us expected to see more Godzilla. After all,the movie is called Godzilla. The MUTOS where okay, and better than some Toho monsters, but for me, didn't carry the film. We get some nice shots, but they just didn't excite me. Perhaps if they nixed the whole EMP thing, and we got a nice military battle,I would have dug it more. And I don't get your whole being analytics thing. Are we supposed to enjoy whatever is put in front of us because having fun is more important than having an opinion? Man,that would make life more easy....I guess if there is a movie you've seen that you didn't like, you ought give it another shot. Perhaps you're just being too analytic after all.

And hello Big Bad Ben! Yeah, I don't hang around too often anymore. I wanted to see people's take on the blue-ray. Now I remember why I left. I leave the boards to people like GG. They know enough for all of us.....

It comes down to the budget, if he is given $160 mil again, dont expect good CGI abd lots og screentime. But if he is given 200-250 mil, maybe we can get what we want
Remember that chap, I forget his name, he climbed Everest without any oxygen, came down nearly dead. They asked him, they said, "Why did you go up there to die?" He said, "I didn't, I went up there to live."

^I get what y'all are saying, but you gotta understand: the reason for all the cutaways was because it only had a $160 mil budget which, while not exactly cheap, by any stretch, isn't enough for them to just throw money at the screen especially with the extensive care put into the CGI for the monsters, every second they were on screen was money eating away at the production budget. The sequel I surmise will have a bigger budget (Cap 2 got a $40 mil budget increase from the first Captain America film, and it made a lot less than this, so yeah, a bigger budget is definitely in the cards for Godzilla 2), so they won't have to do that as much. Relax.

Yeah, they could've maybe fit a few more minutes of Godzilla into the first movie if they wanted to, but "a few extra minutes" wouldn't be changing anyone's mind, let's be honest.
