I agree largely with The_Real_Slim_Zilla. So many of the actors/actresses mentioned here I have come to largely associate with a particular role, especially any of those involved with Marvel or DC. I loooove RDJ but to me he will always be Iron Man and will always have that snarky Tony Stark attitude(even though his role in Chaplin was different). Same goes for Angelina Jolie, Christian Bale and several others. I have seen them all do so many things over the past decade.
Watanabe I really enjoyed, plus he was a bit of a Godzilla fanboy in the new movie, and him knowing the back story I think could serve well in a sequel. I'm sure there is plenty of stuff he "could" know about that he didn't mention in this film. Monster Island and other creatures..yada yada yada.
I didn't know who Bryan Cranston was until the casting of this movie, and then when I fell in love with Breaking Bad, I largely could only associate him has Walter White but he wasn't ingrained into my mind as just that character, so I felt like he had more to offer....if that makes any sense, lol.
Sir Anthony Hopkins and Freeman are two of my favorite actors and I could possiblity see them in the Godzilla universe, mostly because they are highly seasoned and very adaptable and I wouldn't immediatly think "Oh look there is Thors dad or Hannibal". I liked the idea that Gareth picked from lesser knowns or from the Indie world for this movie, and while there were some bumps along the way, I'm sure he could do it again and better. I'm just getting fatigued at seeing so many of the top actors recycled over and over and over when there is either new blood or seasoned older actors that aren't constantly plastered on movie posters hoping to attract an audience.
Although the franchise is 60 years old, we have a "new" Godzilla on our hands. I'd like to see some "new" actors to go with him.
Anyways, my 2 cents.
