Hey guys, this is my first post ever here and I've been catching up a lot on the awesome news and leaks on this site. Please allow me to give my take on the ancient enemy that Godzilla appears most likely to
be facing in the movie based on all the hints so far.

If we look at some excerpts taken from details of the recently outed Giant Godzilla Toy Package, it describes Godzilla as, 'Possibly the last of an ancient species of giant amphibous creatures that evolved at a time when the surface of the Earth was over ten times more radioactive than it is today. Rarely seen but spoken of in ancient Pacific Island myths, 'Gojira' was last spotted in 1954, when the U.S. Navy encountered and attempted to kill him with an atomic blast in the Pacific Ocean. Since then, the giant creature has been living in the deep ocean - until a threat to his survival from an ancient foe forces him to reappear.'

If you take note of the two sentences I highlighted above, first we now know that the amphibious species belonging to 'Godzilla' thrived on areas of high radioactivity in the Pacific region. As the conditions of Earth changed dramatically over the years with radioactive levels plunging, species that cannot adapt either die out or go into a state of hibernation. It appears that Godzilla went into a state of hibernation, and was encountered by the US Navy in 1954 during military exercises. Clearly frightened by the immensity of their discovery, (in their ignorance) decided to unleash their nuclear arsenal on the monster in the hopes of killing it, which they later guised up as nuclear tests being carried out. Of course, the radioactivity from the nuclear bombs were unable to kill Godzilla, but these explosive 'tests' were sufficient to drive Godzilla deeper into the ocean to evade these attacks, which had since disappeared from man's sight.

While the US navy was aware they were unsuccessful in killing Godzilla then, (as Ken Wantanabe a.k.a Daisuke Serizawa in the movie describes that 'they were trying to kill it'), the US also made the
move to seal off access to these Pacific Islands to ensure nobody else would ever encounter Godzilla which had disappeared into the ocean. How do we know this took place? If we look at real-life history,
fallout from the detonation of Castle Bravo in 1954 —intended to be a secret test—fell on residents of these islands and news spread quickly around the world. The islanders were not evacuated until a few
days later and suffered radiation sicknesses. They were since never allowed to return to the islands as the US classified the area to be unsafe.

Next we focus on the threat to Godzilla's survival, which is described as an ancient enemy that 'forces Godzilla to reappear'. This enemy would also have been thriving during ancient times on high levels of radioactivity to survive, just like Godzilla, and also disappeared when the conditions changed. It therefore appears that this ancient enemy living in the ocean was also awoken by accident by the radioactivity of the nuclear tests in 1954 which was not known by humans. For something to drive Godzilla out from the ocean and back onto the land surface for survival, this enemy would have been based in the ocean too and have the ability to snuff out something from Godzilla that threatens the very existence of Godzilla. And what is that ability? - The parasitic ability to absorb / leech the radioactive energy from Godzilla's body. This would make sense because if you look at the storyline, Godzilla first surfaced onto land on the other side of the Pacific, Tokyo ( to feed on the radioactive energy), causing the destruction of the nuclear plant which was covered up as an accident.

How do we know the enemy is based in the ocean too? - Bioluminescence, which is used by organisms living in dark depths gives us a strong hint of that, if you look at the glowing body of the MUTO creatures. But that's not to say the eight-legged MUTO monster or Flying MUTO you see in the trailers comes directly from the ocean. They are merely products of M.U.TO's cross-experiments between existing animals and the cells of the ancient organism which have the ability to leech on Godzilla's radioactive energy. How do we know that? In Legendary's description of the movie, it states that Godzilla is pitted against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. In other words, the ancient enemy of Godzilla appears to be a micro-organism based in the ocean that thrives on radioactive energy, similar to how algae or krill if uninhibited in growth would decimate oxygen levels that kill fishes in ponds and in the sea. Therefore Godzilla is forced to come out of the ocean because the micro-organism that has been revived by the nuclear tests in the Pacific ocean is leeching on Godzilla. Humans, who are unable to destroy Godzilla (which is now on land) using nuclear bombs, decide to mutate the micro-organism's cells to turn them into land creatures thinking everything is under their control only to find it go heywire, creating a whole new set of monsters that threaten not only Godzilla but humans themselves too.

This leads me to conclude that the ancient enemy Godzilla is facing is similar to a new version of Destroyah but it would not go by that name and would be a new adversary altogether. If we look at Destroyah's origins, it originated as a colony of Precambrian crustaceans that had been awakened and mutated when the Oxygen Destroyer was detonated to kill the original Godzilla in 1954. After it's detonation, the energy released, revived, and mutated the Precambrian crustaceans that lay beneath Tokyo Bay. Destroyah grows quickly and adopts several appearances from his microscopic form, 3-mm form, insect-sized form, 2-meter form, 18-meter crab-like forms, a larger aggregate crab-like form, a bat-like flying form, and a bipedal 120-meter, demonic final form.

In comparsion to the new Godzilla film, nuclear bombs were in use this time round in an attempt to kill Godzilla in 1954. If you add on the presence of the 8-legged MUTO and the flying MUTO including other smaller-sized MUTOs that will be present in the movie, it further points to the plot of Godzilla facing a Destroyah-like enemy. Perhaps Gareth Edward's comments that audiences will be wowed by something else present in the movie to confront Godzilla refers to the final-form of this Destroyah-like ancient enemy?

What do you guys think? :)

Update: While we are still unclear of the exact storyline and everyone is coming up with their theories on the origins of the MUTOs etc, it seems more hints have been outed by Gareth Edwards in his interview with Verge.

I understand that while there were people who find my theory on the MUTOs and Godzilla plausible, there were others who dismissed it altogether, especially on the part where I said Godzilla may have been leeched on by a micro-organism in the ocean which was later on mutated by cross-experiments by scientists on land which went out of control.

In the interview, G Edwards talked about the design of the MUTO monsters, where he said they were designed in such a way that when people looked at them, they could see that it was ' evolved from the same organism'.

I think it could be a radioactive dino because it says it was around the same time as godzilla and godzilla was a Dino befor the nuke

@ TWGFan2014

Glad that you vented out your frustrations by taking the time to express your thoughts, which is what a forum is about isn't it? - where active discussions and meaningful debates or exchange of opinions take place. :)

But I would like to correct you on a few things you mentioned about my posts.

Point #1: There is nowhere in my posts where I have ever stated that Destroyah would make an appearance in Godzilla 2014 if you have actually read my posts in detail. When I made my assessment of Godzilla 2014's storyline, I inferred to the appearances of the Muto Toys that were leaked, (flying muto and 8-legged muto) which bored similar traits, which led me to speculate that Godzilla would be facing off an enemy that is possibly capable of transforming / evolving itself into different forms. The ability to adopt different forms in its confrontation with Godzilla, bears similarity to Destroyah's storyline which also involved several transformations (spider-like and winged form factor) and even the detonation of the device called the Oxygen Destroyer in 1954 (because Japan in real-life is prohibited from having nukes btw), which in the US version of Godzilla 2014's story involved nukes being used instead in 1954. These coincidences, led me to theorize that Godzilla in this movie, appears to be dealing with an enemy similar to Destroyah, and I repeat again, I have never once stated that the monster is going to be Destroyah. So you may want to get your assumptions corrected. :)

Point #2: I quote, from what you wrote above: 'Two is that a microrganism is ungodly small (bacteria) and is not a good source for monster creation. Three is that there was never mention of micro-organisms and the idea that M.U.T.O has been scientifically creating or engineering mosnters has not been confirmed. Five is that Destoroyah was identified as a type of microcrustacean, of which there never was any such creature. ' - *Ahem*  It appears that when you wrote the above excerpts, you must be too blinded by the awesomeness of watching too many Godzilla movies that you would readily deny the existence of anything microscopic in size capable of challenging Godzilla because you simply refuse to accept their existence just because you think they are not awesome enough? Have you forgotten that Destroyah itself evolved from a microscopic form? Have you also forgotten how Biollante was first created from a microscopic cell in a lab? And you said that is never such a thing as a micro-crustacean. *Cough cough* Are you sure about that? You might want to get your facts or assumptions right again btw. And if you say that Godzilla 2014 has never mentioned the existence of a microscopic organism, I don't think director Gareth Edwards is supposed to tell you that's the case, or if MUTOs were outrightly created by humans through experiments, because if he were to tell you that, he might as well cut the chase and deny people the suspense and tell you the entire story now isn't it? LMAO.

#Point 3: There are things in the movie people like you can try to deny, but some hints are just too strong that it need only require common sense to know what is going on. MUTO itself is a research organization, the producers do not stick a label onto a monster and call it 8-legged MUTO or Winged MUTO for nothing, with the header 'malevolent creatures, bolstered by human's scientific arrogance'. If that hint is not strong enough, we have Godzilla's official trailer with Ken Wantanabe narrating 'the arrogance of humans thinking nature is in our control, and not the other way round', followed immediately by a MUTO's claw crushing down on the streets.

You said that I am projecting my thoughts, and opinions by saying that its not a viable argument, but at the same time aren't you too guilty of projecting your thoughts and expecting me to adhere to your opinions here? You also failed to provide a basis for rebutting my claims other than saying Destroyah would not be in the film, and blindly denying the existence of everything else not considered awesome to you, like how a Godzilla fanboy would argue. (Which I already clarified and corrected you that Destroyah is 100% not going to appear in Godzilla 2014 but the storyline bores similarities to such a creature with the same abilities).

My advice is simple, if you don't like what you see, just ignore the thread and move on instead of outrightly stating that threads like this should die down simply because they don't coincide with what you think or feature content which you dislike, it defeats the purpose of having a forum for discussion isn't it? We might as well stop discussing and sharing information now and wait till May 16 to catch the movie then.

Some people have far, far too much time on their hands.

The fact that some people actually hang around these threads implies the same for them too. :)

One thing some people can be assured of, is when what I stated turns out to be spot-on, some people are gonna get castigated. I'll remember to ;)
