MemberBaragonJan-10-2014 12:40 PMI have had this idea for a while now, and I finally can put it in words.
Alright, so in a few years I will strive to be a great game designer. I have had a few ideas for games now and then. The first one was a sonic fighting game in the engine style of Naruto Storm 3. My second idea was a completely new Godzilla game (which this discussion is about). So, we all have seen the types of Godzilla games where its a four player all out brawl style. Now think about a completely new style. Now here is my completely new idea: What if we had a first-person, 2 different storyline style Godzilla game? You guys are probably at home like "What? That wouldn't be cool", but hear me out. When I first saw the trailer, I completely changed my ideas about this game. I changed the original synopsis, and the original idea. so here is a synopsis on the game:
The story will consist of two storylines, Godzilla's and Ford Brody's. In Ford Brody's storyline, you will be in the eyes of Ford Brody after the Godzilla attack. You will have to do different missions and even optional ones. You can control different vehicles and even aircrafts! I will spoil the first mission for you briefly: You will be getting started to do the Halo Jump into the destruction of San Francisco. From that point in the game, you can control your movement with the objective marker below (in meters). When you move past the clouds, you can see whats left of San Francisco. From this point, you can see a massive, unidentifed moving object. You can see one of your teammates falling next to the object. You cant make out what it is, but it has huge spines on the back side. You finally land and your mission begins. You currently have a pistol equipped and the objective is to locate any survivors, if they are alive. You can now run, jump, and shoot, but you have a stamina meter for realsim. There will be 3 objective markers but you can only go to one of them. If you go to one, the others will get to the other 2. When you finally find survivors, you hear a loud roar thats in your area. You can also hear stomping, followed by small earthquakes. The buildings start to collapse and you need to get the survivors to the extraction point. The buildings are losing balance and now falling down. You need to sprint to the extraction point, 250 meters away, without being crushed. On your way there, one of the survivors loses all his stamina, and is crushed by the building's rubble. You finally make it to the extraction point and your teammates. The extraction arrives, you, your teammates, and the survivors board the plane. You leave whats left of San Francisco and whatever that thing was behind. The screen goes black, you hear a loud roar followed by the logo of Godzilla. Chapter 2 of the story begins.
Thats the brief synopsis of Ford Brody's story. The discussion is labeled "Part One" because I will explain Godzilla's story in the next discussion.
So what are YOUR thoughts? Let me know what you guys think in the comments section below! also let me know if I should continue coming up with ideas for future development ( I am considering making it in the future!). I will check back in soon! See ya!

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-10-2014 2:38 PMFrom a game standpoint, it's actually kind of intriguing. Godzilla has never been portrayed from a first person view, as almost all Godzilla games were either 2D walkers or the 3D fighter games without a real stroy to follow save for a few CG sequences.
The idea is very interesting, but I would encourage a bit more depth to Ford's first mission. If you haven't planned a tutorial for the game that is separate for the main storyline, then the first part of Ford's mission should be the tride and true 'learn as you go' method where the first thing you do is learn the controls as you move towards the first major objective marker which is the building where survivors are waiting.
Being one who had an eye for game design before I switched to Recording Engineering (since I'm better at the latter), I can appreciate the work you're putting into this.
If you keep going with these ideas, I'll be happy to keep providing feedback and suggestions along the way. I've been a die hard Godzilla fan all my life, and have always wanted to see him in a video game where it wasn't a 2D walker or a brawl.

Thank you for the feedback. I want to hear what you think of Godzilla's storyline in my next discussion.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-10-2014 3:02 PMIt is funny that you posted this today because I was thinking of something very similiar yesterday. My idea though was a bit different though. You will switch between Ford and Godzilla just like you posted, and you will start in San Fransico to rescue survivors. The only difference is that you have no gun for at least that first mission. This would make sense because Ford and his squad would just be rescuing survivors from Godzilla, and a gun would be worthless against Godzilla. Then, during the mission, Godzilla kills off the rest of your squad. You must get the survivors to safety. There would even be a part in the game where you would even have to sneak past Godzilla! That would be intense.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-10-2014 3:33 PMThis sounds like a very fun game. But I agree that Ford should not have a gun and there should be challenges like the stairs to the survivors is destroyed and you need to find anorther way to the survivors. Also when you find the survivors and Godzilla comes you should have other challenges to get past him. Other than thatI would definitely by this game.

The reason why he has a gun is because they dont know what their up against. I forgot to say that they receive intel that San Francisco was attacked by something massive.

That actually would make sense. Also, when you think about it, people would be in a panic phase if something like this happened. When Ford and his squadmates would try to rescue survivors, there would be some that would attack them, possibly armed. I think that you have some really cool ideas. Keep it up!

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-10-2014 4:31 PMOkay iI get it now. In that case keep the gun because in would make sense.

AdminSpaceGodzillaJan-10-2014 5:47 PMI like the idea. I've always thought a Godzilla game, from the POV of a soldier would be neat. More so, I'd like to see a GTA V style, open world map, with various locations you would need to get to in order to somehow stop Godzilla and whatever Monsters infest the city. The open world concept would be neat, and a random action oriented Godzilla would add to the realism. Imagine flying a helicopter and seeing Godzilla behind a mountain, have his atomic breathe light up the sky and knock your chopper out ofthe sky. Or trying to sneak through streets and buildings and seeing Godzilla's tail, or feet crush nearby structures.
I like this game idea, but I would really hope an open world concept would be implemented. Great thread!

Thanks for your feedback!
The open world concept sounds great, but I want Ford Brody's specific storyline to be Battlefield style so you can interact with the environment like blow up parts of buildings, etc. There was an idea of a part where Godzilla is attacking Hawaii and you are controling an Apache Helicopter and firing missiles at him with other teammates controlling the same vehicle. Godzilla's model would also react to being hit like roaring in pain or in anger. Another way he would react was he would lock-on to you and start firing his Atomic Breath. There will be more details on Godzilla's Mechanics in "Part 2" of this discussion.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-10-2014 11:03 PMI think it could work with a little tweaking. I'd still prefer the Godzilla section to be in 3rd person, something about controlling a character of that size in first person seems a little disorentating. Maybe an over the should view kind of like Dead Space as a happy medium. But I do like the Idea of Brody's gameplay being sort of "Call of Duty"-ish. I'm intrigued by this.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-11-2014 2:40 AMI'd like to chime in one last time here.
The Godzilla perspective is going to be tricky to get just right, so do think that one over very carefully before finalizing it in your process.
Anyway, my last thought about Brody's story would be this: Is it going to be more narrative driven or more action drive? Certain games seem to be drive more by a very strict storyline with a specific ending in mind. Other games are more action drive, and rely on the player's choices to discover their ultimate fate at the end.
Which will you choose for Brody? I imagine that since you are designing this game for yourself and other Godzilla fans that you won't copy the story of the 2014 movie exactly, so which would you prefer for Brody? Personally, I'm for the latter, with the success or failures of his missions along the way driving him towards a slightly different ending each time.

Actually, I am not too sure. I have not thought that one out yet. Thats something I have not decided on. Thanks for your support!
