Godzilla's Size Debate Ended

This is less of a discussion and more of a statement, but feel free to comment and share your thoughts all the same.

So there's been some speculation that Godzilla's going to be MASSIVE. I think no less than two threads have the number 779' as their "official" fan estimation on Godzilla's size, and that number is a load of bull.

I can prove it too by sharing with you an interview with Gareth Edwards and IGN where they discuss Godzilla's size near the end of the interview.

Edwards says plainly that his Godzilla is the "tallest there's ever been, but, just about." He mentions how certain buildings that were the tallest in the world such as the Empire State Building and then the Chrysler Building were outdone little by little over the years by others around the world, and that's what he's done with his Godzilla. Godzilla 2014 is going to see Godzilla be taller than ever before, but not by so much that it's ungainly.

Gareth goes on to say that if you make him too big *cough* 779' *cough*, you lose the ability to really tell a story and you lose the connection of a more modestly sized creature. He also states that they did "loads of tests for the size" and that they didn't pick it out at random just to make him bigger. 779' seems like a pretty random number to me, even if it is the official height of the 555 building in San Fran.

So with all due respect to those who enjoy discussing which skyscrapers he's going to stare down, I can safely say that the answer is "none of them." Godzilla is going to be bigger than ever before, but as I've said so many times on several threads, he's not likely to exceed about 440-480 feet at absolute maximum. The chances he'll even reach that height are quite slim if what Gareth said is to be believed.

In truth, his height is much more likely to range between the already established heights of 110-140 meters.

779' is outrageous, and not in a good way. We all know Godzilla's going to be the tallest one ever, but if he were that big there'd be no way to hide him among the skyscrapers of San Francisco and we'd have seen him in the trailer throughout the entire opening sequence as the soldiers are falling towards the city. There'd be no point in hiding him in the smoke and darkness of the burning city under a storm because it wouldn't be possible. At 779', there's no way to hide Godzilla from view and no way to prevent us from seeing his full design without any interference. Storm and burning city or no, 779' would show us the entire design in eloquent detail regardless of the angle of the camera.

So please, put an end to this ridiculous 779' stuff. It's completely radical (not in a good way) and all it does is incite needless arguments and sprout false rumors which do your fellow G-fans a disservice rather than a service.
