Godzilla could be a distant relative of the crocodile!

After close inspection of the Godzilla trailers I realised his back plates (scales) are similar to that of a crocodile. I remembered seeing on a pedigree the intermediate species between a crocodile and amphibians. The Elginerpeton is an intermediate species between fish, amphibian, and reptile. Here is an artists depiction. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bf/Elginerpeton_BW.jpg or the Tulerpeton http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d5/Tulerpeton12DB.jpg I am not stating that he is either of these, but similar in nature, appearance, and origin. For all we know he could be something entirely different. What are your, the fans, take on this theory as to where the King of Monsters is from, and what he is.

i'm pretty sure that Godzilla will always be an archasaur. if he is similar to a crocodile he could be based off rauisuchians like fasolasuchus, saurosuchus, and postosuchus. i don,t know how to add images so maybe someone could post a picture of maybe, fasolasuchus please.

Here's two fasolasuchus images:

I gotta say, I think you're right, this does kind of remind me of LegenGoji (or is it BearGoji?).

i just had another theory come to mind. this new godzilla has some interesting features. the legs remind me of sauropods, but the arms are defnietly therapod. the head, although it has therapod features and is supported by a short, thick neck, is still rather small compared to the rest of Godzilla, like a sauropod. his behavior is obviously similar to an aggresive therapod.the torso looks a bit like both and the tail could be either but its length says sauropod to me. also some dinosaurs were armored, one specifically, was the sauropod saltosaurus, it actually had scutes, which if exagerated, could become godzilla spines. what i am getting at is that godzilla has defining features of both sauropods, and therapods, these two groups make up the saurisuchian, or lizzard hipped, dinosaurs. what if Godzilla originated as another, unknown, type of saurisuchian?

A Guys You no Godzilla is still going too be a Dinosaur and why would Godzilla be a crocdile or an aillgatgor like really Godzilla being A croc and Godzilla is not going too be related too a Saurischian. Godzilla is still going too be a Dinosaur and also if Godzilla was a crocdile he would be smaller so Godzilla is not a Croc he,s a dinosaur. and also Godzilla may look kinda like a croc but he,s still a dinosaur

SABER, saurisuchans ARE dinosaurs, and as long as godzilla is an archosaur i don't thinck it would be an issue(dinosaurs, crocodiles, and rauisuchians are all archasaurs btw)

I believe if you look at some of the classic Godzilla films they clearly explain that he was a T-Rex if i'm correct

the classic godzilla ogininated as a fictional therapod, it was very similar to a T.Rex, but buch larger, and much tougher. this was explained in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah

I'm not saying he's a croc, I'm saying he may be an intermediate creature, the step between two new species, that's all. In the original he is an intermediate species, not blatantly a T-rex, but many dinosaurs, a cross between a land dino and sea dino.

the reason that the crocodile theory seems reasonable is becuase there were no dinosaurs in the ocean. it is a common misconception that animals like pliosaurs and pleisiosaurs in the ocean were dinosaurs, when infact, they were simply marine reptiles, not dinosaurs. but i do get your idea.

Guys, you might want to see this on how Godzilla was designed for the original 1954 movie.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfSARjZ0OXc

Godzilla is a mix of a T-rex, iguanadon, stegasaurus, and a crocodile. That's the features blended to make the original look.

This should help. :)

@'''G0DZILLA_HIMSELF''' I know that they are marine reptiles, it is a common misconception and not many know that. It was also easier to put sea dino, not marine reptile. I also did not say that Godzilla was not a T-rex, but simply a mix of dinosaurs/reptiles.

I too had noticed the crocodilian traits and wondered its orgin as well. I like your theory, as it could explain why our Godzill has both gills and crocodillian traits.
