I know many of you, like myself weren't that fond of the 1998 Godzilla film, but for the sake of discussion I thought it would be interesting to compare the effectiveness of both the TriStar Godzilla and Legendary's Godzilla trailers. With regards to 1998's trailer, I tried to find one which closely matched the timeframe of G2014's.

So, after watching both below, (opinion of Zilla '98 ASIDE) which trailer do you think was more effective at teasing Godzilla and setting the right tone for the film? Again, try to base your opnions on the trailers alone - not what you thought of the final 1998 film:

Personally, I think the 2014 trailer did a better job of creating a dark, serious atmopshere, than the 1998 trailer did - even though the 2014 trailer actually shows more of Godzilla himself than the 1998 trailer did.

Both have their pro's and con's, and revealing Godzilla could be either in each case.

But I'm curious to know what you think! Give your honest, unbiased opinions (if you can, haha) below!

Godzilla is a force of nature and the son of the Atomic bomb which is something to fear. I grew up watching every Godzilla movie out there, and never did I feel fearful of him because he was always there to save the day, even when he was considered bad. The 1998 Godzilla trailer was confusing to me at first because i noticed the quick snap shots of godzilla and I wasn't sure if it was godzilla or not. I also didn't see a lot of destruction which at the time assumed they were saving until the film came out. But I was very dissapointed and sad that it wasn't godzilla let alone killed him in the end, and he was small.  As for Godzilla 2014, the tone was dark and realistic. it really showed the true nature of things of how it would be if Godzilla was real. Like I said before. I never was afraid of him, but after watching only the trailer, I now  fear  him.  There is no stopping what can't be stopped, No killing what can't be killed. He is a walking plague, He is the bringer of death. He is the King of monsters and I hope he murderlizes everything in his path, and I hope they play his triumphant theme.

To everyone arguing about Godzilla, the 1998 version was crap, and it gave away too much in the trailer of what he would be doing for the entire film which was  Stomp around and run away from everything. At least for the 2014 trailer, yes they sky dived a bit long, but at least it showed the destructive power Godzilla has, and how frightening it would be if he were to be around today. 98 version was all action, fish feeding, french secret service, chasing Zilla around and man eating baby velocizilla's. no realism to his destructive force, no heart to his character, and no respect for his image. Godzilla 2014 is by far a Master Piece.

The 2014 trailer hands down. The trailer for the 1998 Godzilla didn't reveal enough of what Godzilla looked like and, when I seen what he looked like, I was disappointed. The 2014 trailer reveals enough of what Godzilla looks like that, I'm pretty sure I won't be disappointed when I see him in the movie. When I watch the trailer for the 1998 version, I expect to see a Godzilla that looks like the one in this 2014 version or any one of the past Godzilla movies and, what we got didn't quite meet my expectations. So, I like that the 2014 trailer gave us a good sense of what Godzilla is going to look like. In the 1998 trailer, we got glimpses of a foot, a tooth, the spines on his back but, it never really showed his face or any type of full body shot. In this 2014 one, we see through the skydiver's goggles a pretty good full body view of Godzilla, albeit it is from a distance and amongst a dark smokey background. And, in the end of the trailer, the shot pans up most of his body up to his face which, although is somewhat obsured by debris, smoke, etc., we can use imagination to discern what it is he looks like. So, I don't think I'm going to be disappointed at all over the way he looks, as I was with the 1998 version.

varanthebelievable: "I would also like to state that we don't have any idea what is going on with the other monsters. We kind of know what the smaller spider guys look like, and we kind of know what the bigger centipede-ish guy looks like. But remember, we already saw the centipede guy dead, which means that there is very likely something much bigger and more dangerous that Godzilla still has to cope with, and we haven't the faintest idea what that creature will be. Mark my words, if it ends up being Mothra, people will be maimed (by me)."

Although we've seen the centipede-ish guy and the spider guy, we haven't seen them in any official capacity. In the official trailer, these guys aren't shown. And, I'm kind of up in the air on whether or not I'd be disappointed if Mothra is in this movie. I think, if done right, it might be pretty interesting. But, it's going to have to look very realistic. I would rather see maybe a Destroyah type monster or King Ghidorah or even Rodan but, I think Mothra would be okay if done correctly.

2112: "The 1998 trailer is better than final film derserved. The 2014 trailer is better than the whole 1998 film!"

And that, right there, pretty much says it all in a nutshell and, nuff said. What a perfect way to sum it up. LOL!

Actually, the original 1954 version never gave me a sense that he was there to save the day at all.

When i think G98 i think of the New Years Eve comercial for me that was the best caught me off guard thats when i realized The King arrives to the big screen. Rememeber seeing it when it came out may 28th i think...anyways....it took me ten years to realize what a KRAPY MOVIE Roland Emmerich had good intentions for making a Godzilla but he lacked the passion Gaerth Edwards has. I love the new trailer it looks flat out scray im okay if this movie gets a R rating as long as it does well and we get a SEQUAL. So cannot wait for the official First non teaser trailer

I feel like this can be compaired to the: Slender vs Amnesia: The Dark Decent debait

Slender will give you jump scare after jump scare untill you get tired, much like how the 1998 trailer gives you Godzilla's Ellbow or foot or eye.

Amnesia will give you a long time for creepy-ness, tencing you up for a mayjor jump scare. similar to how the 2014 trailer builds sucpence until that one final awesome momenst of awesome-ness

I Believe In Harvey Dent
