Godzilla: The Director's Cut

So it's been generally accepted that the movie is going to be PG13, although it hasn't been confirmed as far as I can tell. However, Gareth Edward's Monsters was rated R. Do you think that there could be, and should be, a director's cut of Godzilla, where we get to see some pretty gruesome things that had to be taken out for the sake of keeping the movie PG13?

I mean, I think I prefer an R rated Godzilla movie over a PG13 movie, especially when I consider the fact that this movie is going to be a darker, realistic take on Godzilla, and let's be honest.. If Godzilla happened to stumble onto a big city, a lot of R rated things would be happening, realistically speaking it'd be pushing on the boundaries of NC17 if you add in the mutos and what those little buggers would be doing.

So how many of you would be interested in seeing a Director's Cut of Godzilla? I know I would.

Gman, buddy, I was just waking up when I was posting, or still very tired, and all I really meant by this post (despite what it appears that I'm saying) is that it would be pretty cool if there was a bunch of cut material that was pushing the movie in an R rated direction, and if they released that material in the form of a director's cut.

I never meant to imply that the movie has to have gore and violence to be dark. I meant that it would be neat if there was gore in places where it'd be "tastefully" done, but by adding it into the theatrical movie would be giving it an R rating, so they give us a director's cut. I never meant to imply that there was going to be any cut material, I was just asking if there was cut material (for the sake of a PG13 rating), if anyone would be interested in purchasing that when it becomes available.

Indeed, and I understand that, but the conversation has since taken a different turn and I've addressed those comments as they have come.

But a director's cut of the kind you're alluding to doesn't sound like much of a director's cut. "Tasteful" gore that was removed sounds like quick shots that might add up to a few seconds at most. (And that's often all it takes to get a movie an R or PG-13 rating-- depending on which way you're swinging it.)

But of course, if there were a director's cut, I'd be interested in seeing it. I just beleive there are too many factors in play for such a cut to exist.

The only difference there would really be is:

Theatrical movie: You see people getting caught in explosions, buildings falling on them, and after effects of attacks, hospital scenes ect

Director's cut: You see the people actually spewing blood, and more profanity.

Honestly the line you can take it with PG 13 nowadays is pretty far. definitely enough to encompass what the movies is trying to show. I don't think a Director's cut would really add that much more, if anything, that wasn't done well enough in the actual movie.

That said I'd still probably get it just so I'd have the option to watch both, and have extra scenes to enjoy, or make fun of if the movie ends of bad.

today, every movie is pg13, it needs to be too much sex, a lot of drugs and blood to be R, so I think it will be PG13.

Look guys, the only thing that has been confirmed is that the first trailer is going to be rated PG to PG-13. Why? Becuase they want news of the film to reach a wider audience. Even if a trailer is rated PG-13 for the sake of advertising, the film does not always follow suit. The Godzilla film itself could have a PG, PG-13, NC-17, G, or R. We don't know yet.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, misinterpretation of information leads to false rumors and pointless debates much like those on this page. The trailer is known to be rated, not the film. This entire page is pointless and based on speculation and a misinterpretation of provided information about a trailer that was translated to the film by mistake.

@Kyero

That's incorrect. This conversation took place before we knew information about the trailer being PG in Canada. So the discussion we've been having about the rating has nothing to do with the trailer information. It's all based, quite frankly, on what we know of summer blockbuster marketing and common sense.
